lost a friend last night. if you were at the Hot Rod Rumble you no doubt remember the grey primered 34 Ford with the orange painted interior and wheels with the Ford motor and 3 pedals (like "real" hot rods should have). well if you were lucky you got a chance to talk to the owner, Steven Turner. he unfortunatly p***ed away last night. he just had surgery for colon cancer last week. he only just found out he was sick a few weeks ago. i've been just sick about this since i found out thursday things were'nt looking so good for him. he was a helluva guy. even though i've only known him a couple years we hit it off and i really looked up to him. i can only imagine the grief some of my other friends who have known him for many many years feel or his brother who is also a great guy and a hot rodder since birth as well. he will be greatly missed by all that knew him, for sure. my good friend Dave (little black primer pickup at the Rumble) will be having a benefit car show in Steven's honor this spring at his place in Dorr. he hopes all the HAMBers that made it to the Rumble will make it out to this event that will benefit Steven's family. i'll p*** along a date and details as soon as it is set. i guess i have a greater cause to get the model A rollin by then. it's just so hard to believe especially for a young guy like me who has'nt had to deal with death, much. we miss you Steven. thanks for letting me get that out. thats Steven closest to the camera on the left. and his hot rod... Mike
mike, sorry to hear about your loss..it's never easy to lose a friend.....keep us posted on the benefit.
That ****s. I had a Polyp removed from my Colon 14 years years ago, this reminds me that I should go get checked again before to long. I can tell you from experience that the examination isn't much fun, but its a lot better than dying from Colon Cancer. I had the first polyp removed when I was 20 years old, so its not limited to older Folks either.
I'm sorry to hear that Mike. When things like this happen it only reminds us to enjoy each and every day of our lives. Live EVERY day like it's your last. RIP Steve
I'm sorry to hear another rodder has p***ed.That's why it's important to get a colon exam every 10 years once you hit 50.The test is a lot easier than it used to be. Not that it's going to stop death from knockin' on your door but it might keep him away longer.
I'm sorry to hear of your loss. I just went through this a couple of weeks ago myself. Prayers to you and his family. Rick
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Steve's family and friends.I'm glad that I got to meet him at the Rumble.Keep me posted on the benefit show Mike;I'll be there. Ray
Mike, sorry to hear bout your buddy.I lost a lifelong friend last week. She had a young son which makes it ever sadder.......Shiny
Very very sad news, i'm sorry to hear it. Its sad when someone who lives life to the full is taken premature, sounds like he was a great guy.
It's never easy to lose a friend, and there is no way to prepare for it! I can tell you first hand that cancer plays no favorites! I was never sick a day in my life and nearly six years ago, I gave in and went to the doctor because of a persistent cold, only to find that I had cancer in my right lung. I ended up losing the lung, dealing with a difficult recovery and eventually resuming a normal life style (without smoking)! In my world today, there isn't such a thing as a bad day. Cancer free for six plus years now, and still doing the Hot Rod thing, trust me.................the little **** doesn't bother me very much any more. Nothing can replace a friend or family member..............absolutely nothing! Shoe
I feel your pain, man. I lost a close friend, the one who was instrumental in me getting the 62 and getting it done. My sympathies to you and his family. Jim
Its real hard to lose friends.I have been to 14 Funerals since the first of the year. It does not get any easier as you get older.Sorry for your loss..
Sorry to hear the news Mike. My condolences to all his friends and family. This should be a wake up call for you guys to get check-ups. Old and young alike. Most guys don't get regular checkups like us wimmen folk do. Please do yourself and your family a huge favor and get everything checked, NOW! Not later, not next week or next month. Call the doctors office today and make the appointment. The life you might save could be your own. Without naming names, right now we have a HAMB member who has been diagnosed with colon cancer. He's being operated on this week. This form of cancer is VERY treatable/curable with early detection. Come on you guys, don't be wuzzies, get checked. Once again Mike, sorry to hear about the loss of your friend
Damn, I'm sorry to hear that Mike. Seen his car around but never got a chance to meet him. Ditto to what Denise says on testing, and not just for colon cancer but prostate as well. Charlie
Mike - I'm truly sorry to hear about your friend. Losing a friend is certainly a very hard thing to go through. I'm losing my best friend and street rodding buddy to bone cancer as I write this. He has very little time left. Sadly things just won't be the same without our friends. I try to keep my mind focused on all the fun times we had going to the runs and working on the cars together. It helps me get through the rough spots. - Terry
Mike, I am so sorry to hear about your good friend being claimed by cancer. That ****s, plain and simple. And, as many others have said please PLEASE, everyone who hasn't had a checkup-get your ***es to the clinic and get checked out now! In our own club in the last year we have had several people diagnosed with cancer. Three of the guys wives are being treated for breast cancer and one of the guys is being treated for colon cancer. Fortunately, they all seem to have caught the signs early and should be able to beat this insidious disease. Please everyone, get your checkups before your friends are remembering you rather than busting your chops!
Death always ****s Homie... I'm sorry for your loss of a friend... I've lost a lot of people out of my life and I'm only 35... Think of it this way, he's in a much better place...
Sorry to hear about your friend. I wasn't at the Rumble but will try my best to make it to the benefit show. I remember seing his car somewhere. Pretty *****in'. It really ****s to lose someone who we all shared a comnmon thread with.
Thats a ***** man, my Dad went pretty much the same way , with the same thing real quick before it had time to sink in for any of us.
Mike, Sorry to hear about Steven. I remember him from the RUMBLE and he seemed like a nice guy. It's never easy to loose a friend, especially to cancer. I lost one of my best friends this last year to suicide, that really catches you off guard. My condolences to his family. The tribute get together sounds like a good idea,I'll bet we can get some mid-michigan folks to attend. Frank
