Sad find

    i remember this car vividly growing up, its heartbreaking to think its going to be recycled.

    scrappers suck

    I’d be talking to the guy and tell him you want to buy the grill for the scrap price and he keeps the car to scrap. Around here they give you about $350 for a car and that’s not a bad price for the grille

    The grille, the sheetmetal pan that the grille sits on, and the bumpers are all pretty valuable to custom car builders and would be worth buying if that yard allows the sale of any parts.

    It's a shame to see the car go, but it'd be a much bigger shame to see the car get scrapped with that grille still in it. It's unlikely anyone was going to adopt and restore a '51 Desoto 4 door sedan, but there are lots of guys who would use that grille in a custom.

    If the price is right, you could save a piece of history and make yourself a nice profit at the same time. Win-win.
