That's really ****py, Denise. I'm so sorry for you, but it's the event's loss not having you as a participant. The only person I know who out-cruises you in terms of miles logged in a real-deal hot rod is dandy Don Dillard.

I applaude your acceptance of the outcome based on the voting. It's nice that you're not raggng on R&C for doing something hinky. You're a stand-up person!

I echo the sentiments of all those who feel that it's time Big Olds got a top and side gl***, and I'd like to propose something here that could ****** victory from the jaws of defeat: How about a HAMB event in which Big Olds gets a modest chop and then is fitted with a custom Carson-style top? Got lots of talent around here, so your ticket would be for materials, food, and some refreshment.

And just to bring things full circle, this could be a super how-to for the about-to-be resurrected Rodders Digest which will be sheparded once again by Gerry Burger. Maybe pull Hendrickson out of his semi-retirement as a book editor to shoot and write it . . .

Just some thoughts to help you through this rough patch.

Mike

2. Yeah I want a recount...especially from those Florda guys and their "Hanging Chad". If the votes were done on one of those poke out the dot for your favorite, then that was just plain uncons***utional and the votes for the first five will need to be thrown out. It's the only fair thing to do!

I bet I will not hear anything about one of the goldchainers serving up cookies. [IMG]*******s![IMG]

Damn! I was looking forward to seeing Big Olds mop the asphalt with a few of the other contestants!

But at least we got ONE of "our own" in the game!

denise,

i'm so sorry it didn't work out this year. but as has been said, you're a winner in everyone's book and really deserve to be there.

7. That's the pits. All my family voted for you. Did they count the ballots in Florida?[IMG]Maybe there were some hanging chads. [IMG]

Hey, if it was me [uninvited opinion here] I'd better my chances for an eventual win at Ego-rama with a posi rear axle. For those that weren't at the HAMB drags, that torquey 455 Olds absolutely ROASTED the right rear tire for the first 600 feet or so. If all that wasted torque was put to the ground, you'd really go girl!

When the Big Olds went down after Bville, I offered up a sweet deal on a posi -too poor to donate, but a real good price. Any performance goodies you might want/need for the Olds are just a phone call away.

Denise,
The fun is in the building and driving, which you've already done in spades.

Like indoor car show trophies, glossy magazine recognition is certainly nice (so I'm told), but certainly not necessary. Don't let it get you down, just go out and get more bugs in your teeth... [IMG]

The Bad News; The rest of the world doesn't get to meet you and Big Olds this year.

The Good News; We all know and appreciate you and Big Olds

I can say I have seen Both in action and know what they are missing.

I like A-V8's idea. With all you've done to get us up and grinnin I think we could do a "HAMBTOP". Not much I can do, but I'd kick in some bucks to help put a Carson top on Big Olds. How 'bout it folks? Who's up to do the deed for our ******* crusin buddy? You guys back east have been thinking of doing a HAMB CHOP. How about a HAMBTOP? Think of the free cookies! [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
Can you visualize Big Olds with a "Salt White" carson top?
I can toss in some GM seat belt buckles to hold it on, and some bucks towards materials or beer for the crew. Everybody here knows she deserves it! [IMG]

13. Bummer Diane. I only voted for you and Don. Guess they only counted one of my votes.

The new top in Rodder's Digest would be a true test of how much leash gold chain John D will give Jerry. Go for it!

Denise...bummer, but when Dan did the ER with his willys, they were one car short...too many bailed out. You still may be there. Some chainer will bail out due to the wax crew (illegal aliens) having their yearly day off.

Mike --

I'm up for that, if Denise okay's it. Something tells me she's gonna want a folding top though . . . Carsons are a bit limited when it comes time to go *******!

later,
Steve.

Steve is right about that- Denise has already gone the lift off top route on here PINK ford a few years ago. She didn't like it then so i doubt she's ready to revisit that experience.

JohnB has a good memory [IMG] I did the Carson style lift off top in the past. It was a royal pain in the ****. Couldn't lift it off my myself, it was very heavy and ackward. I was always knocking on my neighbors doors asking them to help me lift it on and off. I'd leave in in a motel parking lot while at the fairgrounds and get rained on. I'd leave it at home and get rained on while at a cruz nite. If I took a long trip, I always had to have it on. I might as well have been driving a coupe! It was what I could afford at the time though.

Real folding tops are my p***ion now and Big Olds will have one eventually. IF I do the install myself, with friends help of course, it will be do***ented, with photos, to share with not only HAMB folks but RD if they are interested.

Flat-Top; I will be taking you up on your offer of a "sleepover" one of these days. I wanna come right after Normie-poo pays you a visit [IMG]

4t6rd; I won't sell you my grill but I do have the most *****en-ist, completly smooooothed, rechromed, front and rear '47 Chevy bumpers that would look awesome on your Ford [IMG]

Sheesh! That means that someone overstuffed the ballot box even more than we did! That's pretty low!

You know, though, since you live in Michigan, a top and windows wouldn't be a bad luxury to consider!

I KNOW your pulling my leg..... you will remember that "scene" till the day you die... and so will I [IMG] [IMG]

Thanks to EVERYONE for all the kind words and support. Plans are in the works for making Big Olds more compe***ive for next year. A posi rear end is a must and thanks to Fat***Buick, it's going to be a reality. Looks like windows will be a reality soon thanks to OldCarGl***Guy and hopefully a top will get installed before next spring. You guys have given me the confidence to try to install the top myself [IMG] Also, I AM going to learn how to weld this winter and peak his hood and fill in the door handles myself. It can always be fixed if I screw it up, right? [IMG]

Big Olds will look better, run better and be a stronger compe***or next year. Bet on it [IMG]
