Many of my 2-wheel rides start in a large group.

Invariably, I end up riding alone. I don't have a death wish.

I always make it to the warehouse, but sometimes an hour later.

If My club is heading to an event, we will cruise together. Most of the time I do what I have done for 52 years, get on my bike or in my car and just pull some gears and head out on a back road cruise. But I also build my cars to look like the custom painted 60s drag race inspired rides that revved me up growing up in the 60's. But underneath they are as up to date as my late model daily. I have also spent alot of life behind the wheel for my jobs. I have developed eyes in the back and the sides of my head. People are careless as hell out there.

I like solo rides as well as group rides... To me it depends on the group; Some folks like to putz along, looking for scenic routes and others like to haul *** for time. There seems to be more communication these days what with smarty pants phones and what not. I don't bother with my (flip) phone at all while I'm driving, but M'Lady is virtually always on her state of the art, fancy pants "does everything and more" device. So when in a group, when someone needs a "P" stop, everyone knows and the banter about where to pull off begins... often times 10 minutes after the last pull off. UGH!
We used to cruise out to Morrow Bay every year for the annual shin-dig out there. A group of six or so cars where going for the week end. (The previous year we had gone with the group and took a couple hours longer than it should have, so this time we left on our own a half hour after they met & left) We got there in under 4 hours. It took them 9-1/2 hours! It's nice to go @ your own pace.

I just drive it. Life is to short to constantly worry about what may never happen. And if it does I fix it.

one positive about driving these old heaps with a group is of you break down you do not break down alone and got some backup to get going again.
one negative about driving these old heaps with a group is of someone else breaks down you have to stop and help them to get going again. :)

As long as I know the guys I'm driving with, being in a group is ok with me. Conversely, I have logged many hours driving by myself, all over the U.S. in old cars and hot rods. That way I get to be the boss. I believe it's great therapy to take a couple weeks solo in my hot rod when ever I get the chance. drags19flamercloseup.jpg
