Safety Issue on our T buckets

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Anchorboy46, Dec 15, 2010.

  1. I'm not sure any of the old cars are safe,,with the gas tanks exposed.

There again, driving and enjoyment of having them is what makes us tick!

There is inherent danger in driving them and sooner or later something is going to happen.the proof of that has been seen here on the Hamb many times, you must take responsibility for your on safety..

There is also a risk to driving the old cars ,especially T-Buckets,Just ask Megan,or any number of folks that have been involved both single car accidents and involving others. HRP

  2. I've been thinking this same thing since I saw that video on here of the 32 Vicky that got rear ended. My car is a 32 sedan and I'll have 11 gallons of super unleaded flappin out there in the wind when it's finished. I want to do something to make it just a little safer but I'm not sure what. Fuel foam maybe?

go diesel.... then you have no risk of big bangs.

oooppps I forgot, no diesel allowed on the hamb.... damn traditions....

just run nitro and get it done..... wooooo hoooo

  4. Well Said...Try to stop an old 50's sedan with stock brakes real fast...you had better have a long wide area. Thats the next thing (brakes) that I'm updating on my '51 along with seat belts!

  5. Nerf bars or bumpers come to mind.

I will concede that there are things that we could do to make our cars complient to what is concidered safe in the 21st Century. Some of them are good ideas and others are just extreme paranoia.

I have been driving and or riding old iron for a very long time. For all intents and purposes i should have never ever even seen a computer so I have to believe that my ticket hasn't been punched yet.

Yes it is a good idea to properly vent your vehicle and maybe even a sealed partician between the fuel tank and the battery is a good idea also.

Someting that I discovered while standing up to my neck in the most stagnet water I could find is that worrying about if I'm checking out soon is not a good idea.

Do the best you can to make your life as safe as possible, but don't do it to the point that it becomes stressfull. Your time will come soon enough you might as well have a good time while you are here. Life is loved in minutes why miss all that fun.

great, another fucking thread that the T-bucket haters can bitch on. i see this going just like every other T thread.....closed! and as far as you guys that say "show me any t bucket that is safe" if its put together right and has everything that a well built hot rod should have its just as safe as a open wheel model A roadster! i own both a t-bucket and a model A..... i feel safe in both cars, driven both cars on 1200 mile road trips, drag raced both of them.... see where iam going here? come on guys they are hot rods if we get into a crash...its going to hurt weather it be a T, A , 32 ford.....etc....

I think the most unsafe part about T-Buckets is they all seem to have 500HP motors in them. The only other like example I can think of is the 502 CI Boss Hoss so called motorcycle, just my take on it.

the only thing unsafe about 500hp motors is the fuckin bone head behind the wheel that cant handle that much power......

  9. YEAH! I drive my roadster like it's a cycle. Maybe it's a little safer - but not much! We got seat belts too. Driving defensively and each second thinking, "every fool out here is trying to kill me!".
    Worked so far.....

Well, that was what I was thinking too!

  12. Yep! Kinda goes along with "it aint't the gun that kills, it's the fool pulling the trigger" but in this case it's "the fool attached to the foot"!

  13. If it aint a T BUCKET, F**K it!!!!

I see this turning into a mailstorm of arguing about fiberglass and cowl brass lanterns and wheelie bars...
    Have at it boys.
