Dude, that's fucked up. Glad your OK. Everytime I use a grinder, or cutter, or some kind of dangerous spinning tool I worry about that happening.
I hear ya, it sucks, I have one of those scars on my hand, It give you more character, besides girls love scars. Speedy recovery
I had a 4.5-inch stone come apart on my grinder once...damn, it'll wake you up! I had the shield still on the tool, but still got hit in the leg. Didn't come through the blue jeans, but left a bruise. My full face shield died a couple years ago, and I never replaced it. I will now. What kind of stones or cut-off wheel were you using? I learned there is a difference between the high-quality expensive ones, and the cheaper Harbor Freight type. The one I blew up came form Ace Hardware, but was the cheapest they had. Now I get my stuff from the Lawton tool guy at my swap meet. More expensive, but I'm worth it! -Brad
I cut myself like that at work with some banding materal. I had blood all over my face. I went the get stiches and all I could think is Im not going to be pretty any more, Ha Ha. So I get back to work and the guys gave me a bunch of shit. I couldnt drink a pop without one of those ass's telling me I was leaking. For about a year after that everytime anyone in the shop cut a band, about 5 of them would yell Ahhh, My Chin.
Damn, that's scarry. I haven't had any abrasive wheels come apart on my yet, I plan to be prepared if one ever does decide to go. Glad you werent hurt more serious.
that's more than a skratch gunna have to start callin you skar no shit about the shrapnel in the neck could have been a lot worse scary shit there
Man, did you have to say they were Dewalt brand?, I've got a drawer full of the dewalts and felt pretty safe with them, never had one blow, now I guess i've been lucky, I wear the goggles, but think I better go back to the full face shield.
DAMN man. That hurts to look at it. I had one blow up on me and almost took out my thumb. I wasn't wearing any gloves or safety equiptment. ....now I know its a shock to get a big hole in your face, but imagine the pucker factor of losing a thumb on your painting hand. I looked down and it looked like hamburger. All sorts of bad thoughts ran through my head. It woke me the hell up. EVERY time I fire that bitch up, I make sure to have my leather apron on, my leather gloves (even though people say not to for some reason), my full face shield, earplugs, and in the least a long sleeve shirt, and a dust mask. I'm a super geek now and proud of it.
Holy crap! Glad your Ok Skratch. I think I have taken way too many chances with my grinder....Full sheild for me from now on.....Lucky
TINGLER "EVERY time I fire that bitch up, I make sure to have my leather apron on, my leather gloves (even though people say not to for some reason)" I have seen a glove get caught in one of those and pull a guys hand in. not pretty at all.
But whats the alternative? If I'd have had a glove on when the wheel blew up, my thumb wouldn't have gotten mulched.... I don't know.
You should always wear protective gear. I had one shoot some shit in my face when I was working to grind off part of a '57 Buick frame so I could fit enough '58 suspension on it to make it roll (if anyone cares, the shocks mount different and the upper A-arm has a smaller hole in the top, doesn't clear the '57 shock mounting). Got a bit of metal in my eye that through some miracle from God fell out on it's own as I slept a few days later. I went out the next trip I went to work and bought two pair of safety glasses... figuring if I lose one, I'll be able to find the others -
that second shot looks itchy. Fuck the Dewalt and any others. Only use the ZIP DISC by WALTER. Best one on the market. travis in VENTURA
Damn dude that shit looks kinda frakenstein, but now you've got an excuse to get facial tattos eh? I had a flexible grinding disc blow apart on me grinding down a tack weld, put about a 6 inch cut on my inner thigh and only missed the end of my wang by about half an inch. Fucker went right through my pants. That and the airhose blowing apart and hitting me in the balls were my two scariest air tool accidents so far.
Glad your going to be ok, it could have been alot worse. It's a good wakeup call for all of us. Now you may also have to change your name to Stitch!
Been there before. Had a grinder with a 4 1/2 inch cutoff jump ackwards and run all the way up my arm and then start across my torso. It lost momentum right around my belly button and fall to the floor. The grinder was already off by the time it hit the floor. It happened that fast. I was wearing a full face sheild but thats it. Gloves are scary when they get gaught in something. Really scary. So are long sleeve shirts and jackets. Its you versus the machine at that point and hopefully you can pull yourself out or turn it off before your skin gets it. ...at least i have cool scars...but it makes me look like i cut myself cause i was mad at the world or something.
I dont know either, I guess danger is just inherent in some fabrication work. Knowledge is your best defense against hurting yourself when working.
I had a grinder kick back and fly out of my hand....it walked up my arm and smacked my in the face....FREAKED ME OUT!....I was squeeling like a scared little girl! Kmember and our buddy saw it and came in and was making sure I was ok........just a bunch of metal and fibers in my skin and a few scratches all the way up....I was lucky! when the grinder bounced off my head in left a divot and a cut when it hit the ceiling! DOH!
I don't know dude. It looks like a tatoo of a cut to me. And ya got a little something.....never mind, it fell out. Oh yeah, "safty" 1st, spelling 2nd. Haha. When ya gonna finish striping my wreck?
i put the guard back on my grinder saturday. and always wear a face shield.. that same day 15min after "being safe ii flicked the angle grinders chord to pull it from the extension a bit too hard, it flew up and smacked me 1" above my left eye, its bruised and will deffinately leave a scar, you just cant win.
There is a tap test you guys can do before you turn your wheels on that is a good way to check the integrity of the wheels: Ring test: The wheels should be tapped gently with a light nonmetallic implement, such as the handle of a screwdriver for light wheels, or a wooden mallet for heavier wheels. Tap wheels about 45º each side of the vertical centerline and about 1 or 2 inches from the periphery as indicated by the spots in the figures below. Then rotate the wheel 45º and repeat the test. A sound and undamaged wheel will give a clear metallic tone. If cracked, there will be a dead sound and not a clear "ring." http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/docs/2004-101/chklists/wheels.gif
