I have a Saginaw four speed with switch for backup lights. There is supposed to be a small rod that links the switch to the reverse shifter linkage. Mine is absent. I have been told that this small piece of linkage is the same for both Muncie and Saginaw applications. can anybody confirm that? The linkage from a Muncie is available if I search hard enough. I have yet to find anything for the Saginaw.
The side cover on one I just converted to a 4 speed overdrive , used a screw in style back up switch too, it had a push type "ball" that Activates backup lights, but no rod, there are quite a few variations though, most the later 70's style 7 bolt side covers offer a neutral safety & back up switches. Be an easy & safe swap to gain a neutral safety switch to boot! Hope this helps.
very nice flux capacitor! but I need to stick with OEM. The car is low mileage and very, very original
YES! that is the linkage I need. now to find it. I have searched long and hard all over the internet and in catalogs, but to no avail.
http://www.pontiacparts.net/Electrical/page49.htm Might help. http://www.novas.net/forums/showthread.php?t=16626 http://www.trifive.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-103267.html
bob on the muncie in my 66 chevelle i used a piece of heavy coat hanger bent to fit. i have not seen it repopped anywhere. even the original linkage was very crude. there might have been a specific color to the wire. if you have to have a original try eric at crash enterprises in kenosha at 1-262-942-8882 or daves four speeds in milwaukee at 262-513-8331. i have dealt with both and are good guys.
Try to google 1967 corvette reverse switch (images), I think it will work for you Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Yeah that's one to make for sure. Got any old thin nickel stick weld rod? It won't rust under there. Looks like 1/8 by the picture. Have at it. Only your hair dresser will know for sure...
Are replacement shift rods available somewhere for these 4 speed Saginaw transmissions, even if the back up light switch linkage rod isn't? I'd like to know the part numbers and source for the shift rods (and even the shifter itself).
my best factory manual doesn't even show it on any trans....you can see the hole in the shifter plate....
