    working on my 32 studebaker coup used a 215 ci. olds with a saginaw 4 speed. there is a reverse switch on the rear of trany for backup lights now I see there a single termal on the front. dont have any idea what it is for any idea thanks

    wasn't that something to do with putting it in reverse before you could start the engine?

    It's a timing issue deal for meeting EPA regs; transmission controlled spark system (TCS) or combination emissions control solenoid (CEC), and controls the vacuum advance in high gear, depending on the year. The start issue was in the clutch pedal linkage; it did't matter what gear it was in. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

    TCS switch ? It was used in later smog equipped cars. It sent a signal to say it was under a heavier load while in 3-4.
