I see ads on facebook and people will question certain aspects of the car, then the owner goes out of their way to say how awesome the car is... I always think (and sometimes post).... Then why don't YOU want it?
Some of those ads seem like they're copy/pasted from the Wikipedia page for the car they're selling. I agree with others that it's aimed at non-knowledgeable people who have money but wouldn't understand the relevant details anyway. I want a location, a price, and details on condition and equipment. Multiple pictures, outside, not buried under a bunch of garage debris. I don't need "Just testing the waters" or an explanation of what you were gonna do with it and why you had to quit, and I definitely don't need the seller to tell me how much I'll enjoy looking through the windshield.
But a wordy ad that doesn’t make mention of the actual vehicle? If it did I missed it, seemed to me “try to visualize yourself in this type of car”. If I was in the market to buy, I want to know drivetrain details, etc. heck. I know the car I might be interested in, and as a seller you want me to pretend it’s the 1950’s all over again?
When you reply to these type of ads, you ask something real basic like "what size SBC is in it?", and IF you get an answer , it will be "yes, complete", or "12 volt rear axle". And a picture of a $100,000 restoration at the start of the ad for your $350 parts pile is compulsory, with the statement (maybe) at the end saying "first picture is what I had planned to do with it, but now my circumstances have changed (I have to go to jail)".
