So Frizby and I are heading out to the great state of Kansas on Friday morning.

Who can we expect to see once we get out there? We are staying at the Holiday Inn Express. Is there a boobie bar or any place in particular we need to go to? How about a good BBQ or burger joint?

I have never been to Salina or a KKOA show so tell me what to expect besides an 8 hour drive listening to some of the finest hair metal in the land looking at Center Pivot Irrigation.

Last first: You can expect to meet me...I'll be selling/signing my books there...you can expect to see the rad, chopped '57 and my bro's '54 Caddy. You can also expect to see upwards of 400 Kustoms...old school, new school, traditional leadsleds and hot rods and more whitewalled tires than you ever knew were manufactured. You can expect to see some big names in the kustom field, shake hands with them and chat with them and you can expect to see Eldon Titus roll the VooDoo Spider up I-35 out of Wichita. You can also expect to be quite late on Friday...as that's Day One of the event. You can expect heat, our 100 degree plus days have moved east...you can expect the park to have giant shade trees. You can also expect the Space Truk to be a big hit if you are bringing it.

A good burger joint? Cozy Inn Hamburgers, 108 North 7th Street. Don't know about Boobie bars. Are there such things in Salina? Don't know about any "scenic" things in Salina...it's Kansas, remember?

Yes Roger, I plan on driving the spacetruck all the way there. I hope it makes it! Ha ha ha. It is only 2 hours longer than the longest trip it has been on so far. We were just planning on being there Saturday then heading back home on Sunday morning.

I look forward to meeting you.

Meeting at the Kansas Colisium, starting at 8:00 thursday morning, leaving there at Noon. Would recomend getting gas before the colisium. Its 80 miles to the park and gas stations are few and far between! George Barris is arriving in Wichita Tuesday and will ride part of the way with Eldon in the Spider.
We will have pickup with gas and stuff and an empty trailer just in case following the pack.See you all there!

We won't be getting there until late Friday afternoon. Come by the Holiday Inn express and say howdy.

Fritz will be making margaritas! Ha Ha Ha

I'll be drinking cheap beer. Look for a certain baby blue unit in the parking lot.

Wow, the world famous Lil Mike will be there!

Hey Jack, I want your autograph to......

Be there in the '62 500... got one window etched and will be etching the other at the show.

Cozy Inn Hamburgers for sure... they're a Salina icon.

Coronado Heights, a few miles south of town would be a great meeting place and photo opp... it's a fortress built by the explorer, used later by the US Cavalry... kinda cool sitting up on a hill all by itself. (yes we have some hills here!)

Titty-bars? Yeah, us hicks know what boobies are, and we like to watch 'em too, Jeez. There's a good one two stoplights from the showgrounds, can't think of the name of it right now (it's called a "gentleman's club" yeah right) let me know when your ready, and I will lead ya there.

I will have about 5 gallons of sweet tea chilling all day, every day... so come say hi. Look for a chassis black '62 Galaxie with a screaming red metalflake top, some idiot in a bandana scratching a skull into the back window, my kid playing his blue accoustic guitar keeping me company!

Exspect to see Lee Pratt there. I talked to him last week and he was getting air conditioning put in his '58 chebby that he is driving there from L.A. I believe he told me it will be the 25th anniversary of that event? Do let all of us know how it turns out and please show us all pics here that could not attend. I will see pics when Lee gets back. KNUX!

  20. Well, O.P and Duke headed out yesterday in the gangster whitewalled 58 Ford that I sold Duke over the weekend. I wasn't gonna go b/c of work and a lack of planning ahead, but yesterday my wife informed me that she didn't have to work this Sat. and reminded me that there will not be another 25th anniversary spectacular, sooooooo it looks like we'll be headin out tomorrow after work driving into the wee morning hours to be there. I'll be keepin an eye out for all you guys.
