Bitchin! ( You had me worried about puffy-shirts and flock-of-seagulls-haircuts there for a while... )
welded front fender to running board, will bolt to rear fender. Playing with headlights (size, shape, lens,) will lower into fender.
we used 2 part foam to look at shapes for rear we might like. easy to do and shape , alot better then spending the time to do it in steel ,then decide you do not like it.
Cole you do some outstanding, no incredible metal work.. Can you explain the foam thing.. do you make a form and spray it one, let it rise, then cut/sand to shape?
It truly is a shame that the car will get painted. The only comfort in knowing all that metalwork will be painted over is the fact that Cole's paint jobs are equally outstanding. Looks like you forgot to shave the door hinges. Good call. Stunner. JH
Awesome looking Cole..!! I can't wait to see that car in person..!!! Hopefully soon.... Respect the HELLFIRE..!!!
That is fucking unbelievable. That car will look good whether left bare or painted. I think a good few coats of WD40 and let 'er rip.
Thanks for the words. Foam- I use foam from hardware store for insulation . and 2 part expanding foam from fiberglass store (boatyard) on the rear there ,I cheated using a form by getting a chunk of foam board close then holding board to body and pouring (easy does it) the 2 part in the crack letting it glue my board and fill voids at the same time , stuff shapes with wood saw then 40 grit, can smooth to 120 grit if desired. do not use out of rattle can of expanding foam ,it never dries without air ,so down in cracks you will have a soft gooey core .
Lets not forget that this thing started as a 5w I believe. Correct me if I'm wrong. A totally awsome display of metalwork. Frank
If I may be so bold as to make some styling comments -- at risk of having the custom wizards here hand me my ass -- I'd want to see the headlights a touch more slippery and parked a little closer to the fenders. I don't feel that a faired-in housing bridging the fenders and grille-surround, as it was done on some of the better cars in the past, is necessary. Actually, as nice as that treatment was back then, it's become a bit cliche by now. How about narrowing the '36 grille about 3-4 bars on each side, making it a bit more vertical, and flanking it with close-in free-standing headlight housings shaped around '37-'38 Ford headlight lenses. Think of what's going on at the lower half of the '39 Deluxe grille to get you started in the right direction.
looking good! thanks for sharing the foam idea. was it really a 5 window? got any pics of how you did the rear roof corners? they look perfect. I would like to build new roof corners on my truck since after I chopped and sliced them they got a little lumpy. _cheers
Nice car there Cole. It's got some real STYLE. But I have to laugh at the foam deal. Here in the midwest cars rust so bad I have seen people pump that foam in the rockers and rusted lowers on cars and then shape it up and bondo over it to make what LOOKS like a body. Anyway that car is going to be awsome. Looks like it had a nice body to start with. And I also thought thats the one that started as a 5 window.
Cool trick with the foam...simple and effective way to try shit out before commiting to it! LOVE the car...I'm a sucker for 35-36 Fords done RIGHT...and that one is THERE!!!
That rear really has a bunch of nice lines flowing beautifully. Too bad you have to put tail lights on it. Nice work.
JESUS CHRIST.......you COVERED the car in shiny metallic BONDO, I KNOW IT!!! VERY nice, its just....................wow
