Any other guys from SWVA on here who can help me find a decent salvage yard that isnt priced out the box??
You are most welcome. Pilson's (aka Blondies) was once a legend in the North Carolina and Virginia Area. I heard they crushed a bunch of stuff, but hopefully not too much. There were cars on both sides of the road, but the majority were on the same side as the office, but if you go there, be sure to check the other side out. There were also buildings, busses, and vans full of old parts there too. They even had nors parts on the shelf for older models. I bought all the parts to rebuild the front end of a '50 Merc there, but it has been a while ago. Also, if you go to Pilson's, you might try Clyde Turner. His place was a few miles past Pilson's on the right. Clyde is one of those "they broke the mold" characters, but he has an amazing stash of cars in buildings on his place and many, many more on the hillside behind it...if you can talk him into letting you look.
dunno if he's still in operation but over in Chatham there's a guy named Butch Eaton that has or had a yard filled with older stuff. it's been near 15 years since i was up that way but i used to go there all the time when i lived in Lynchburg. sorry i can't give ya directions or a phone number. some old timer in Chatham oughta be able to point ya there.
Hear where I live in extreme swva, there use to be a yard, just over in Tenn, called Blountville auto salvage!! It was a modern yard, but way back, in the back, there was a pretty big section of oldies!! The old man that run it would let you go back there, if you talked to him, and got to know him. It has been a while, since I been over there, and I don't know if they are still back there, but it might be worth checking out. I got some pics, that I took there a few years ago, and at the time he had cars, back at least in the 30s. There also use to be a place in St Paul, called dog town auto salvage, but I think they crushed all there old stuff, long ago. Shadetree
I'm guessing that Culpepper is about a 3 hour drive from Roanoke, but you may want to try Leon's in Culpepper. It's on Rt.29 and it's gigantic...about 10,000 cars, most pre70.
