Sam is a big reason the HAMB is still around. He's a big shot. Thanks for bidding too, you guys have no idea how much it helped this past year. I can hardly believe the HAMB was free for me for once!!!
There going to think you went soft if'n ya don't tell them what else you got! So I'll tell them... from the beginning. On the Ego-Rama we took a trip out to ElMirage... and during the photo shoot with Dan Khan... I got a little crazy out in the dirt... I was rewarded with an engine that was clogged with dirt (one plug was caked with dirt) the stuff even got into my generator... so on the way to Laughlin, the generator started to spark like crazy and eventually gave out... So on Friday, on our way to the Drags... I bought a one wire alternator and a cheezy bracket... Later that evening, we met up with the entire Arizona crew at SoCal Speedshop in Arizona... and under the moonlight, right next to the building... we attempted to swap the alternator... things were not going well, so Jerry offered to go home and grab some stuff to make the alternator swap go a little better... he came back with some brackets and other stuff... to tell you the truth, it was his moral support and his willingness to bend over backwards to help me out that blew me away... and I think all the other guys down in AZ will agree, Jerry wears a white hat. Anyhow, by the time we got the alternator on and wired, everyone had left... it was just the HAMBers, Alex Xydias, Pete Chapouris, and some of the other SoCal crew... maybe a few die hard rodders... but they were out front while we were out back... So Alex Xydias (sp?) was hangin' out... and I asked him to sign my car... he gladly signed it right inside the drivers door, upside down... then Pete Chapouris came up to me and said "this reminds me of the old days when we used to drive across the country and break down... we had to fix the **** right on the side of the road"... so him and I were standing back behind everyone and I said "people are going to give me **** for having an alternator on this car... so maybe I should have asked Alex to Sign it" I then said "Awe-hell, why don't you sign it... that might make it a little more acceptable"... Pete then grabbed my Sharpie pen and signed it "LOOSE THIS!!" "Pete Chapouris" So when Jerry won the auction for the '**** tail... I got out a copy of R&C to include with it... and just kind of looked through it... to tell you the truth, I had read through it when it came out last March... but hadn't seen it since then... so it was kind of cool to have all the memories rush back... then I thought about how Jerry had helped us out so much, and how cool he'd been... and figured it would be cool to ****e the auction with something else... about that time, he sent me a PM with his address and said it sure would be cool if you auctioned off that alternator with Pete Chapouris' signature on it... and then I thought it'd be kind of a cool suprize if I threw that in on the deal... so I did. The point of this whole post is that Jerry is a generous dude, willing to bend over backwards to help others... and to top it off, he helped support the HAMB in a BIG way... so HE deserves the thanks... so... THANKS JERRY!! Sam.
Long live the HAMB and all it's members. Thanks Ryan for having the vision to start this little world of ours. later plmczy
Ya, Jerry will always be the first one to stop and help, take stuff apart, and push everything aside to help a person in need. A couple of years ago he spotted a part I needed in a U-pull-it lot, I work during the week so I couldnt get there, we knew it would be gone by the weekend so Jerry went there pulled the part for me. Ugly *******, but heck of a nice guy
Yep, Jerry is the man. What Sam described is typical of Jerry. He's always willing to help a freind with a project and he is definately the guy you want with you if you have a problem on the road. If you do break down, chances are that Jerry will have the tools and the know how to get you back on the road, and, be you freind or stranger, he'll go way out of his way to do so. Jerry has saved my bacon many times. He's a good man and I'm lucky to call him a freind. Plus, it's always fun to hear the stories from his days touring with the Greatful Dead !
