I know several of you on here have made their own sand blasting cabinet, just wondering what kind of gun you purchased and how good does it work? I'm having problems with the one I built, it always had problems with the courser material but now it's quit altogether. I use a cheap gun off ebay and in the 4 yrs I've used it I did replace the gun once. I emptied it out and put 3 new bags of the metal grit or whatever you call it, in it today and still nothing. It feeds from the bottom and I drilled a 1/4 hole in the top of the fitting the hose goes on. It's a 1/2 in ID hose and the air hose to the gun is 1/4 in. Should the hose be bigger for the media to come through? I thought maybe that's why I had trouble with the larger stuff. I can get some pics of the set up I got if it will help, just thought maybe you guys had some pics or advise on your set up.
Check out TP tools, a lot of people retrofit their HF cabinet with the TP gun, that’s what I did and it works great. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Good looking gun and it's only $69 plus I see they have a tune up kit for it also. That makes it even better.
There is a video out that shows a simple modification to the suction hose (metal tube) that really makes a difference. I fought with my sandblaster for a long time before finding out about drilling a hole in the right place. Big difference. I use the smallest coal slag and buy it at Tractor supply.
Build your own if you want but the store bought TP setups are the way to go. Save yourself the headache and buy a nice TP cabinet and vacuum and get her done. Lippy
I couldn’t agree more, it’s the best piece of shop equipment Dad and I have. We bought one on the big ones that will fit a tailgate inside. Mom was terrified Dad would have a stroke outside in the sun when sandblasting. It was actually her idea to buy it. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Links to the TP guns?, do we buy directly through them, or? Assume Nozzles are available for the guns as well?
You can buy direct from TP, also bought Kirker Enduro epoxy primer thru them. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I bought a used TP (Skatblast) blasting cabinet a decade ago and it's the best piece of equipment I own. I always order all my supplies directly from TP. I buy sandpaper from them too.
Here is a video on upgrading a HF cabinet and blast tube. The HF cabinets are decent size. The smaller ones are a PIA as its hard to manuever the hose. Building a wooden cabinet will work if you want something larger. One good mod is to buy a roll of mylar and mount it next to your sight window. Kinda kinda like a sideways toilet paper roll. Then run it under the glass. It will protect the glass and when it gets cloudy, just loosen the glass and unroll a little more mylar. This tube modification in the video works good.
built a cabinet 25 years ago with a tp kit, easy to get consumable parts and works perfect, get the foot pedal controlled gun, it is a game changer

For what one of the HF blasters costs, it would be better to start with one of the larger ones (not the table top) and give it a try. You can often find used ones, but watch because some people want more than a new one costs r the gun is screwed up. They are about $190 and I think you can use a 20% off coupon. You can't really buy the individual components to outfit a home made one for that. Then if you need a larger one, build one and use the components from the HF unit. Be sure to do the tube modification and I think you will like it.
