I use degreaser products like GUNK and a handheld, local carwash (if possible).

  3. Sand blasting isn't the best degreaser, it's a de-ruster. I sandblasted a freshly rebuild engine once, blew a hole in the oilpan, then tore down the engine and started over. If you have a choice do your sandblasting before rebuild, then wetskier's method along with a rinse of lacquer thinner or some such will work well.

Seth , I would not sandblast . There is bound to be a place that steam cleans motors . Some of the big truck centers . There is a Rusk in LV I think ? Not very expensive and a good degreaser .
    Good Luck , Blue

I'd question getting media into places I don't want it as well...

Yup, good way to ruin an engine, no way to keep all of that grit out.

    What about dry ice?
What if I go with pressure washer at the car wash?
Just put the carb on,cover it/tape it real well and just go to town?
    After degreaser of course

  8. Dry ice is great for knocking stuff off the engine, (paint, dirt scaly rust, etc) and if it gets inside the engine, no problem, but how well does it remove grease that typically needs a solvent to remove. I've never relied on any type of blasting to remove every trace of grease and oil.
