My friend saw this in the dumpster at the county recycle center ! He thought it should live here, I agree. Always wanted one. Some research shows it to be a 1962 model. Pretty good shape, all complete and all original. Now, will it get used ?
What kind of coaster brake? I always preferred Bendix, couldn't kill them. Rebuilt hundreds of them, often all they needed was clean out the old petrified grease, and put clean new grease in.
I'll have to check the brake. I've not tried to ride it yet. Tires are low and old, but may take air for a test ride. I'm hoping it has the 2 speed hub. This one has 3 red stripes around the rear hub, does that mean anything to you bike guys?
Very Cool . Maybe a test ride when the snow melts or add some outriggers with skis . Wrap the rear tire with a rope for traction.
Sweet! My sad story…15+ years ago I came home from work late one night. The neighbor had a spot in front of his place and a sign that said “free stuff”. County was on him to get his place cleaned out. So I always looked, never stopped, but saw a 3-wheel bicycle. Slowed down, backed up, it was an old, I mean old Swchinn Had baskets on both sides, weathered paint, rotted tires, etc. I put it in the back of the pickup, went home. Parked, went in to bed. Well, woke up the next day and it wasn’t in the truck. Damn. Made coffee, told my ex-wife and her friend (who weren’t home when I got in) someone stole a bike from my truck. They had this look on their faces, then fessed up. Seems they’d been out that night, had a few and came home saw it, pushed each other up and down the street and had a blast. (Skinned elbows were a clue). Didn’t know where they left it but staggered home without it. On another note…I’ve my Dads Columbia he had as a kid, laid up in the rafters in the garage. Just a single speed/single seat.
