I'm so far from being ready to paint, it's not funny. But, I can't help but daydreaming and trying to plan the finished look in my head. I really love the paint on this car (Hetfield's '52 Olds done by Kustoms Royale in AK). What's the best method for getting a satin finish like that? Is it base coat with no clear, or base with flattened clear, or what? If it's base with flattened clear, can you still wet sand that to clean up imperfections, or will the sanding mess up the finish, since I assume you don't buff the flat stuff. Thanks!
The short of it is that a base only paint job will break down and chip very easily. The addition of a flattened clearcoat will make it much more durable. I personally like PPG's Flexed-n-Flat. It leaves a really nice finish, is durable and is very consistant if you ever have to do any respraying. You CANNOT color sand or buff a satin finish paint job if you want to maintain the as-sprayed satin look.
