Better hustle and go while you can! Looks like El Cajon Speedway closed a little while ago. Ascot has been long gone. What speedways are still open in Northern California? That's a little closer to get to than Iowa and Texas. I know about Ontario speedway I mean little speedways.
I think you're a little late to the party. Google shows Saugus as having closed in 1995. According to the 2016 National Speedway Directory, there are eighteen motorsports facilities operating from Calistoga and north to the Oregon line. Edit: Apparently only racing ceased at Saugus in 95. It looks like it is still being used for swapmeets and other activities.
The noise Nazis won the battle and now alas, it is as was said before, a lowly saw meet. But you can get treat deals on winkie eyed dolls for your package tray or lovely velvet paintings of Jesus or bull fights. You will have to make your own vroom vroom noises. Just watch out for the noise Nazis!
Saugus was a great place. The purse payouts were good and cars could run in 2 divisions on the same night. I was there for the first Southwest Tour race in 1986. It was a nice clean facility.
