Hi all As I am deep into my model A Gear box I thought it would be good to have a list of numbers for bearings so I could just buy them from my local bearing supply and save some cash. From my not so local A model parts supply the main front and rear gearbox bearings would have cost $32.50 each. I got them for under $20 each at the local bearing supply. The numbers are: 6306 2RS (the 2RS means 2 by rubber seal) 6208 2RS I am sure lots of other generic bearings and other bits are available for the Model A, if you have the part number. I will post any I come up with as I head towards the rear of the car. I am sure you guys could add to the list and save us all some cash. Brendan
I've had no problems taking bearings and seals into the bearing houses and they've always come up with the right bearing or seal. Or . . . a good substitute on the seal. (My 32's Vega box has a seal that's thinner in the metal area, but still does the job.) Many years ago I had a Ducati 350 Enduro. Bearings started rattling - all rollers etc. - and the Ducati warehouse in Glendale wanted about a hundred bucks for all the bearings. My dad got everything at the Ventura, California bearing house for $22. One thing I've always remembered was the owner telling dad that there was no such thing as a metric bearing and they could cross-reference European and Japanese bearings with no probs.
Actually there is such a thing as a metric bearing...and those ones that he listed for the Model A are metric bearings! Many drivetrain bearings are metric, including all those common numbers like 306, 208, 203, etc
