As I mentioned ina previuos reply, I picked up a new J&W frame from thier booth at the Jefferson swap meet. Turns out the frame has some issues. The Nuts welded to the back side of the body mounting holes on the left side were not squared in the holes. They agreed to reduce the price, and here's the fix. I just discovered that I also have issues with the front crossmember and will take pic's later today.
No major feat here but I needed to get the shape back in the upper corner of the roof on the left side. I wheeled a small patch and welded it in.
Your trailer tires haven't even cooled off yet from the trip, and you are going to town Pic 6 shows a sight line across the roof to the other side, it looks real good now.
To check the shape of the left roof. I straightened the right side and pulled a flexible shape pattern.
Moved the 4 door body into the garage. With my son's help we started removing the door posts so that I could use them to make a left coupe door post and repair the right coupe door post. Both coupe posts (yup they are both thier) are very rusty.
Having sold several bodies like that because they needed too much bodywork, I'm impressed every time I see one like yours brought back to life. Stick too it,and good luck.
count me in, love to follow this kind of project. sounds like you have the tools and the talent to do it.
Here's a few pictures of what is left of the coupe door posts that I have, The right is solid, only the bottom 6 inches is rotted. The left is a mess. Looks like major surgery . I will cut the 4 door posts and splice into the latch and striker side.
The Fordor door posts have both the latch and strikers oneach side. Front doors opened to the rear and the rear opened to the front (suicide)
The back half on the rusted post is better that it looks. I will only need to replace the latch/stricker side. The fordor post is longer that the coupe so I will have to cut 3/4 of an inch or so out of the height.
Thanks for your thread, love the 32"s no matter what the nasay's say! Either you've got it or you don't! Press on....
I bought s copy of the Factory 32 ford quarter panel blueprint from Kiwi Connection. It's a half scale copy so I needed to convert it to full scale. I can tell you this is not a 5 minute process!! The drawing gives a o line for length, datum for height. It will be a great help.
Hey, Does the drawing show differences between the 3 & 5 winda quarters? They aren't the same quarter! " Life ain't no Disney movie "
As you are probably aware 3w, 5w and roadster are all different. This drawing is for a roadster Quarter panel. I figured it would help me in making the quarter. On the roadster outward curve over the wheel arch is different but when I laid the pattern over the quarter the 5w quarter I have and it is the same except for the length at the front. The roadster Qtr is slightly longer.,
Here is the quarter that came with the Forder. This was part of a dirt track car from the 60's. Look closely it's a real mess.
Yeah I have two roadster quarters for my 5w and I think I need to trim like 3/4" off the front to get them to fit my body. I'm liking your progress so keep it coming!
Spent some time stripping the quarter and started straightening it. Lot's of shrinking, man it's rough! This quarter spent it's last days on a 60's dirt modified. it was layered blue, white, yellow , orange/red and black .
