I wonder if this is how custom coachbuilt bodies were built in the 1930's? Were there detailed blueprints or just a concept sketch that the builders worked from.
Man I love seeing progress, woodart is still in the process of making my top wood ? I hope it fits well. I use upacs rear panel it realy helps fit up the rear. I wonder if the complete floor that they offer has been used by any hamber's yet looks nice in the pics. My doors are in primer and My frame is comming apart for blasting .Its great to see the 5 windows being save on the hamb. Keep banging tin !
I bought a floor for this car from Brookville, Fantastic quailty. I will post more on it later, but here are some pictures.
Gotta say I approve of what's happening on this thread. Reminds me of some earlier projects of my own. Including my current Model A roadster project. I'm a supporter of Brookville too. Good job! Doug.
I dont know how I have missed this thread. Awesome work on the 32. Your skills are 2nd to none. I bet the builds with your boys are fun too.
Nice work,You are very talented craftsman. Thanks for the post it helps me to keep pushing on my projects
Here's a few shots with the qtr on the car. I decided to purchase a decklid and gutter set from brrokville as well. I have a few pieces of the old gutter , but making this willl take way to much time. I figure these pieces will help me control the gaps better.
I started making the subrails for the car . I used what was left of the 4 door front subrails as a guide and cut a couple pieces of 14 guage for each side and welded them up. The crossrails have been iin molasses for awhile and have cleaned up really nice so I willre use them. The front crossrails has been cut up some and will need some repair.
I have also ordered a bunch of patch panels from Tom Bay. This includes door bottoms inner and outer, cowl , qtr, below decklid panel. Thee inner structure for the lower pabels has been ordered from Brookvillle as well. They use 16 guage on most of this and i want the extra strength.
I love this thread. Total DIY, garage building bringing an early ford body back to life. All really inspiring stuff for someone like me that has a body in similar condition. I really like the fact that you're doing this on your own and pulling together the pieces as you can find them. Speaks to the masses.
Thanks everyone for the compliments... Jeffery, Thank You, It has been a learning process. The metal meets attended a few years ago gave me the confidence to tackle this project. I will post some of the hammers I have acquired to work the metal, man they make a difference!!
Outstanding skills! I can only hope someday to have the same.....nice! Can't wait to see it complete.
Tom does not have a website. Here's his number 1 620 441 0032 Be warned , the lower front quarter patch panels are not right, they will need to be modified.
Very inspirational build! I have an unchopped survivor 5W. If you need anything in the way of measurements or paper patterns PM me. I'll help any way I can. Keep up the good work! Tim
I went outside to see if the Passenger side quarter can help you in your build but I almost think I'd be doing you a disservice by giving it to you it's so damn rough.
Found some backing plates off ebay. These will go into vinegar bath. plans call for buick shoes and wheel cylinders with Buick finned drums.
looks like mine but worse. you have struck some intrest with me. keep up the good work. looks great. I thought mine was bad but my 32 is looking like an easy fix next to yours but I still have to bring mine back from the dead too. this thread is right down my alley thanks for making my day. I love the ajustable bars that was the one idea i needed to get me going. I have been cutting and welding my cross bars together over and over again. thanks for the great thread. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=176000
yes vinegar will eat rust. l use it on small pieces, that or molassis (man can't spell that tonight) Electrolysis on large parts.
Using some cleco fastners I measureed and attached the rear quarter. Looks like everything is lining up. I have a few steps I have performed that I need to get you caught up on but thought I would let you know how things are coming along.
The end of the Black qtr had been cut off before I traded for it. The original qtr for the car was pretty thin everwhere excpt the end so I cut it off and welded it on. I may end up replacing this but I needed the end on for proportions.
I don't know about steel, but vinegar will eat iron when it runs out of rust. I had a piece of iron really eaten up. It had holes all over it. Be careful.
