Sometimes a car is worth more than the sum of its parts. Sometimes, maybe even usually, its not worth anywhere close to the sum of the cost of its parts. The cost to build seldom has much to do with how much a car is worth.

If the tweedy bird is painted on, then yes.
If it is a diecut sticker then, no.

I like it -- even the color -- and I think the price is reasonable. But then, I'm trying to SELL a roadster.

mj40s hit the nail right on the head, this stuff costs a lot. If you like it exactly the way it is,assuming it is built right, then it is a good deal for you.
Just for fun I looked up Wescott glass 29 roadster bodies and they are $11000 bucks.
Brookville steel 29 roadster bodies are $6500 bucks.
I am sure that other guys build glass bodies for less .

  7. The car can be repainted. You still can't build it for the asking price let alone what the real selling price could be.

Again, the cost to build seldom has much to do with how much a car is worth. And, these parts are now all USED parts. If you're going to do an evaluation on the worth based on the parts, you would have to calculate what the parts would cost (or sell for if you were to part it out) USED.

I hope some of you guys are around the next time I try to sell a used car!

Looks like a nice hot rod for $16,000.00.......it might be fiberglass, but it isn't a rusted out piece of shit that is full of bondo.....like it would have to be for the money.

On another recent thread, they say a really nice paint job costs $20,000.00.

    WTF

And, 1932 Ford Roadsters sell for $352,000 at a Barrett-Jackson auction (lot #1262 at Scottsdale 2008). ;) Some people live in an alternate universe.

I didn't realize that Baileigh Industrial made fiberglassing tools :)!!! Naw just kidding, Doesn't sound like a very good deal to me, but again, I'm a builder, not a buyer.

Friend o' mine sold one very similar to this one about 2 years ago for $16,000, and it needed a little work. But prices are depressed now so I'd offer less if I liked it.(I don't particularly).
I'm thinking 'bout selling my fiberglass '29 highboy roadster in which I have $18,500 invested. 2 years ago, I could probably have gotten my investment back but not in this economy. It's a buyers market, from what I've seen.

My point is; if the car is what you want and if you don't have the 30k to build it then 16k is a good start to get into the car. There is nothing wrong with helping an individual and taking advantage of someone else’s misfortunes. I usually don't build a car for profit. One of my cars I have owned for 44 years and another for 31 years and yes I have built a car that I invested more than it was worth. You want to buy a Suburban?

I guess it depends on how much you want to change on it, and consequently what it would cost to do so. No, you probably couldn't build it from scratch for that much, but even just to change the color would probably cost you a couple grand (assuming you can't spray it yourself). And if you're like alot of us, myself included, you just can't justify investing that much into fiberglass.

Could you have that car built for 16k? No more like 35-40 if someone does it for you.

Could you build that car for 16k? Well that depends. Short time frames and catalogs increase the price considerably.

I have 9600$ in walter up to this point and that includes everything else I havent put on yet to make it run and drive. I think when I'm done and painted I'll have less than 16k in it.

For me it is to plain for that kind of money. This is a good time to buy as money is tight, jobs lose on the rise there are some good deals out there if you want to look and travel a little. Shawn

Yes, if you tear it apart it's worth probably 22 grand. but as we know, that's not usually factored into the value.
