Once you get past the 1930 cars, many states don't like the idea of not having a hood, so they add fines to encourage the use of hoods.

I had just swapped the motor in an off topic car when a nice State Police officers pulled me over and read me the riot act about not having a hood on my car. As far as he was concerned, there was no legitimate reason for not having one. I got lucky because I was only a few blocks from home. He did follow me home.

Not having a hood may not be an option.

Unrelated perhaps, but having left my 32-rumble lid unlatched it opened at speed with a bang, very fortunate that only a slight marking of the paint where it contacted the lower tail pan polished out..

Not too unrelated, what about suicide doors like the 32-34 coupes had?

Many a 3w 32's & all 33-34's passenger body types were subject to damage from an ajar door, the 32's had wood/metal combo "B" posts, not sure of the 33-34's.

I saw a video on Facebook where they threw some hot water on the dent and pulled with a suction cup. So this is probably no big deal.

Seriously, that sucks. Great looking car and well worth fixing. I'm sure it will be back and better than ever.

That sucks . Thankfully everyone is OK and no one got hurt . Beautiful Kustom glad it will be repaired. It’s a scary situation when the road disappears by hiding behind the hood . Had it happen to me once .

My old 47 Dodge business coupe, had a butter fly hood, that split in the middle, so I didn't have to worry about the hood flying up. It had an individual hood release/lock, on both sides of the car.

I wonder if that was the reason that cars like the 57 Fords and other makes of cars, that had the hood opening forward, was the reason they were designed that way ?
Every ones results may vary !

My dad kinda figured out the fix for the hoods popping open by replacing the pins on the hood with new ones and new stronger springs on the catch.
