Now....you left out the part about sick wife and almost NO money to put in engine!..By all means I would cross your fangers and go with the stock lifters and cam.
But....new lifters will run you couple hundred bucks...not $400.

I have not checked that close as to what it cost for the roller lifters for my '66 327. I believe them to run around $400.00 for them. Plus I'm going with roller rockers. I've seen a couple of the aluminum ones, that ate the push rod socket quickly. Then I've seen them last a long time. I have looked at the steel ones, and have found no problems with them at all. But I haven't looked real close at them yet. For now I like them, But! I want to run a solid lifter cam in it, and 10-1 compression. Still deciding on which way I'm going to go.

    Thanks, Pat

I've heard of some having a lifter noise, that they can't get rid of. I think they said because of lifter oiling inside them to oil the rockers. One was having a rocker oiling problem, and retuned them to the company, and they replaced them, but never told him what they found. But he never gave a update on them either, because he benched the engine.

I still would like to use them, with roller rockers. Still deciding.

To buy the roller lifters it's give or take around $175.00, for the roller cam, they seem to run around $250.00+ mark. If I replace one, I'd replace both.

    Thanks, Pat

  6. Pat, please look at a place called Northern Auto Parts in Souix City Iowa. They have an excellent web site and still send out paper catalogs. This is the most affordable place I’ve found for engine parts. They don’t sell junk, all of their parts are brand name.

  7. If you retrofit the block be sure and add a rev kit. I avoid billet cams except in race engines. But you have to buy your roller cam from a reputable cam supplier. There are a lot of soft cores out there, GM even has had a few.

We have been running Lunati cams in most of our builds lately. I have had good luck with Crane and Erson but Lunati has some neat grinds and they build an excellent camshaft.

  8. LOL Tim had a soft factory cam in his stroked 283. That ****er was so bad you could see.
