I think the Offy version is a "dial a flow". I had one that had three different dividers. It is a single plane manifold but the dividers smooth out the flow for better low end. Not the same as a dual plane. I ran mine in a stock 350 with a PAW 280ish cam. With this setup it actually ran better with the dividers out which was more open than the strip dominator I have. If he is going with a 268 grind, a performer or something similar is the way to go for all around street performance. Use the Ron Popeal method of carburation - bolt a carter/edelbrock on it, set it and forget it.
48FLYER...COMP. cams are a good choice. you can get a hydrolic lifter cam and new lifters reasonable. and won't have to change pushrods or springs. but if you fave an automatic trans, then don't go higher than a 278 duration. WHY! because that's the highest duration your torque converter can handle...POP.
