i just bought an engine that i plan to rebuild to go in my 56 chevy. I was told it was a 307, but after running the block numbers found out it is a 327 built march 28, 1968

i was wondering if the heads would be worth freshening up or if i should just go with something else...

drivers side head number is 3911032 and passenger side is hard to read so i gave up on reading it...

am i wrong or shouldn't the heads have the same casting number? they are definately different

That head is from a 68-69 327 or 307. There is nothing special about the 3911032 head. It has 1.72 intakes and 1.5 exhausts. The combustion chambers are 70cc. There are certainly better heads that will breathe and get you better compression without changing pistons (assuming that you have flat tops and not domed pistons). I also would not run a mismatched set of heads. At some point they probably blew a head gasket/cracked the head and replaced it with a reman one. Let me know if you would like a nice set of built and ready to run camel humps for that 327.;)
