Never seen a 2x2 sbc intake... You could try Vintage Speed for an adaptor...

I have never seen a recent one. I saw an old Nicson one, a long time ago.

I think you might be in adapter/fab territory.

I had a dual quad on my sbc and used 2 barel adapters and the work great. Contact ducks hot rod carbs. He's the man you need to talk to to make it happen. He has a listing in the HAMB index or Google ****s hot rod carbs

  6. but why 2x2? 3x2, 4x2, 6x2 or 2x4 or 1x4 are ok

My thought on it is that it just looks good!
I've always wondered why a twin 2 bbl intake wasn't popular.

With 2 bbl adapters directly to a dual quad...do you run the twin 2's with direct linkage or can you run a progressive linkage?
The potential issue being mixture distribution.

2x2 should be run straight up, not progressive as it will cause a lean condition in the cylinders furthest away from the primary carb. You can idle it off one carb though.

i'm looking into the 2x2 setup myself, as opposed to the 2x4, because of familiarity reasons---not for any performance advantage over the 2x4 setup. Let me get familiar and comfortable with 2bbls then move on to 4's etc......

i figure 2 rochester 2g's should flow 860-1000cfms at full throttle depending on which carb models. This is obviously less than most 2x4 setups. AND it is in range or only a little bit more than a single 4 bbl BUT the fuel distribution to each of the cylinders may be better than the single 4.

There was a SBC 2x2 setup for sale here on the HAMB about a year ago that I tried to buy. It was for Dellorto carbs, and was made by CB Performance if I remember correctly. It sold before I could snag it.

@ Armadillo, I'm doing the same thing to a 74' 305- Do a web search for : Charlie Price -Vintage Speed they sell Y-manifold adapters that go from 2 barrel intake to 2 carbs. also 4 barrel intake to 2 carbs. Set ups for Holley, Rochester 2G, and Stromberg 97s. they sell all the linkage, air cleaners, fuel blocks, you can go as much as 8 carbs. if you want !!! if you have a 4 barrel originally then go with the Y manifold that fits your carb style. I have a 2 barrel manifold, so going with a Y manifold 2 barrel base with two new stromberg 97s. Check the site, I think you will like what you see!!! Jay www.vintagespeed.com

I ran one of Charlie Price's 2 x 2 setups on my old 23 with the SBC in it. Performancewise, I have to say the single Edelbrock 600 was better, and got better milage.........BUT, the 2 x 2 setup changed the whole look of the car for the better. I was very glad I went to it.

I had to run progressive linkage on mine. I tried over riding the progressive part and run them together and it fell right on it's face. I think that was because Charlie modified the front Rochester with no idle circuits, with a base made for that purpose. So I went back to the progressive and it worked fine.

One tip. Every once in a while when I would push it a little hard the car would start running badly. I found out if the stop on the progressive linkage wasn't set to really push the front carb closed it would stay open just a tad and was offsetting the balance. Once I set the stop correctly it ran like a clock, and I put a ton of miles on it over the 3 years I owned it.

    Don

Here is how I had mine setup.

Actually, i think pierce manifolds is willing to sell a 2x2 and 2 webers at cost to anyone willing to be their ginea pig: It's not a conventional 2x2 with rochesters, but it's pretty neat, maybe you should check it out.

Will get the link later or you can try.

i wanted to keep this all for myself, hence i kept the info to myself all this time but realistically i don't think i can get my act together in time; Yes, i've turned middle aged.................

  21. Be careful when comparing cfm between the 2 bbl and 4 bbl.

I believe they used a different the CFM rating system between 2 bbls and 4 bbls is different...

I always wanted to use two big Holly 2bbls on a Dual Quad intake....

Back in the 1960's when my Dad raced he used a 3x2 intake and 2 rochesters blocking off the center carb flange. At the time they could run alcohol but nobody at the time could get a 4bl to run on it.

  25. Only 2x2 I've seen someone had 4bbl to 2bbl adapters on a Wieand 2x4 intake.

Oh boy do I have a deal for you, about two years ago I built what I thought was a cool and even better cheap ( total was $65) two x two intake and carbs. Start out with a Cross Fire intake ,they should be almost free. A flat aluminum plate on top ,mount the carbs and go . It ran great, started good ( no chokes) .I'll try to post some pict's[IMG]
