Hi, I have a 56 GMC that is going to use the 350 HO 330hp vortec steel head crate engine. I have always been a v-belt lover in case other accessories goofed up you may be able to get home with the alternator going yet. I don't want to use fancy high end billet components but don't care for it to be too ugly either as some of the plain aftermarket brackets look. Keeping more easy to obtain GM stuff is a plus too. I see GM makes a whole kit serpentine 12497698, but don't see any v-belt types from GM. This do look like they use all chevy part numbers. Only thing also is I probably would use a long water pump that could change all of this too. I am also not positively sure about water pump rotation and if it makes a difference or not. Are there any cars or trucks that would use a donor setup off a stock engine for this and if so serpentine or v-belt? I think most stock GM types would use the GM A/C compressor too, not the sanden..any ideas on this from you guys? thanks

I'd look at your local wrecking yards to see if you can find a vehicle with a SBC and V belt system. Then you can just rob all the pulleys and brackets for your engine. Or check the local Craigslist for somebody parting out a car with the same system that you can get pieces from.
Most the online parts places have inexpensive chrome pulleys, brackets, etc. to do the same thing, if you look through their stuff. Usually the pulleys will run about $20-$25 ea. for chrome, and a alternator universal bracket ill be another $25. So if you're not running power steering, and AC you can get it done for under $100.

The serpentine set-ups use a reverse rotation water pump, so figure out what system you are using before buying the pump.
I believe most factory brackets are for a lower/ wider hood, and won't fit under the hood if you have and early car with a narrow hood.
They may fit, but you have to check.

My '90 Corvette 350 for my '46 Olds came with a serpentine system so I added a standard rotation LWP and bought 'V' belt pulleys and brackets from Alan Grove, problem solved. As I retained AC & PS, I mounted them down low & out of sight, can't use them with a SWP. CPP has a 'V' belt pulley for PS pump in lieu of serpentine one. Sanden AC compressor is available with 'V' belt.
