They are just as bad as the fake 50s olds valve covers for the sbc,if you dont have the balls to build the real motor you are trying to fake then you need to find another hobby.

Fake valve covers always reminds me of the 50s when at the Fireman's fair in Berwyn Pa. my cousin and I saw a channeled Model A coupe with a Firedome V8 in it. We were so excited that we chased down his older brother that came and looked at it. The older brother said that ain't no Hemi!! that's a F'n flathead with DeSoto valve covers on it!!! I was about 14 and didn't know any better. Either way it's still a fake.

When I put the 351 in my 55 sunliner I tried to make it look like a Y block then it hit me if I want it to look like one then I need to put one in,I am in the process of collecting all the parts needed to do it and I know the engine parts will be more expensive then the 351 but I dont care and will save up and do it and do it right. No more fake shit for me and when my 37 Chevy p/u gets a V8 it will be a Olds rocket not a sbc that looks like one.

Hey, If the posers are happy, a fellow Hamber makes money off it and we get a hell of a good laugh out of it it has to be ok. We will get an even better laugh the first time someone posts a photo of their "newly tricked out engine" and refer them back to this thread. Personally I think that type of thing is for the "have way too much money to spend" club and not for regular hot rodders anyhow but expect to see a set on a bobbed pickup or hacked down sedan in someone's set of photos before the year ends.

One real big positive I am noticing on this thread. If this had been posted a year ago,(remember some of the olds/chevy valve cover threads?) the defenders of fake shit would have outnumbered the guys calling a spade a spade by 3 to 1. Maybe things are getting back to what they should be around here.

Only place I ever saw a flathead head look good on a small block chevy was on the Monza at Bonneville with a chevy engine that ran on one bank and had a flathead head blocking off the other side of the engine.

Hmmm, no, I dont think you quite get it. I am guessing by your response, you dont know who Temple McFlathead is, do you? Guess its time for a hot rod history lesson. Temple McFlathead was a cartoon character that Pete Millar (ever heard of Cartoons?) came up with in the early sixties. He was a delusional older man who could just not accept the reality that time, and the small block chevys had had passed the flathead by.
With him, flatheads were like a religion, and something "worth fighting for'. He JUST couldn't accept reality.
Now when I said "I rest my case" that was because your response was exactly what delusional, crazy ol' Temple would have said. See, you response proved just how accurate my observation had been, and that you had made my case for me, there wasnt anything I could add to that. In other words, you had said it all yourself. Get it now? It was irony.

Third paragraph should make it clear. Hope this helps.

  25. Sadly, I guess there is someone somewhere who will put them on a SBC in a '55 Chevy that they call a shoebox.

I saw in the past some flatty covers on modern LS engines.
I looked fast in SFO over a nice 36 coupe , traditional look, Flatty, 16" black wires with white walls. On the secound look it had a 4wdb chassis, a LS3 / 6speed combo with flatty valve covers and maybe fake 3 carbs on top. It looked very nice to my, and this ride realy goes fast with the " flathead:D".

Don´t know, it looked real to me, but this are plus $ 150.000.- cars.

Old Style look with modern engine components are getting more popular.´
There will be a reason, why companies produce fake covers. They sell them well.
For the Traditional´the flatty is the thing to go, but for the hot in the rod, not.

I run a 327cid from 1968, and a 9inch with 2.75:1 in my ride. Its nice, but on long distance travel here over europe ( with some no speed limmit zones) its a bit underpowered.

Up to date power with traditional look , I would have no problem with this.
