I am looking for info on front magneto drives for a SBC. Did anyone make a drive coming off of the timing cover? Would the drive gear have to be backwards?

    Anyone have any pictures?

one of my old dragster engines had one that was a summers brothers. they used a vertex mag base in the conventional rear position (no top on the base just a plate) this provided the needed dist shaft to complete the oiling cycle as well as a place for the tac drive to hook up to. the theory was (as I was told) that havng the timing off of the front was more accurate. they figured that the cam could flex/twist under load (?) giving false timing curves??? take it for what it's worth?

  4. I remember 2 different styles. One of which was a straight mount like a mechanical fuel pump drive. The other had a right angle attachment that mounted the mag vertically.
