I would discourge studs. You have more of a chance having a problem with an improperly installed stud then a bolt, new or old.
I know this is an old post but so am I! Somebody still might read this and it might help them. You mentioned this build being for a young fellow so knowing how young drivers tend to over rev engines the best investment you could make would be a rev limiter! Install it when their not looking and just tell him "its part of the ignition system"! And if you got the money build it as "youth proof" as you can. Like 4-bolt main block, heads that aren't prone to cracking, all new bolts, etc.
I have used the Compe***ion brand my share of times without any complaints. Go with what your gut tells you in the long run.
