Howzit... I'm trying to put an old Hurst motor mount plate on my 350 to put on a deuce frame. The plate doesn't sit flush with the block. It hits the timing chain cover. Do I have the wrong model mount or am I supposed to shim it? Thanks for any help. HJ
There should be two spacer plates 3/4 by about 2 1/2 inches, 3/8ths inch thick, with two 3/8ths holes that match the holes on your Hurst mount...every Hurst mount I owned had those spacers you can make them if you have to.......
well is it a newer 350? the oil pans changed on the small blocks and the cover is a little different, so it might hit on the bottm and sides aroung the crank ,i have seen dowels used as a way to space it out from the block , but you can trim the plate back looks so much better with it flush to the engine, so the chain cover might have been bnarrower on the old engines , i cnat go out and measure one now ,but thats my answer The oil pans on Chevy blocks have gone through a few changes. 1985 & earlier blocks are all the same except the dipstick access is either on the driver¹s side or p***enger side. In 1986, GM changed their gasket design to a one piece rear main seal. The earlier style oil pans will not fit the newer blocks. The computer controlled blocks in the '90s added oil level sensors. The pans that we manufacture do not have provisions for this sensor.
The 350 block I have is from 1969. I knew earlier models had a smaller harmonic balancer, but not a smaller chain cover. It's always something.
