Putting a SBC in the '49 Ford and know that my options are this:
    1) use nova oil pan and pickup (costly)
    2) raise motor mounts to raise pan above steering arm (cheap but involves raising ****** tunnel???)
    3) finding a dropped arm - or is it called the drag link? (tried a few times to no avail)
    4) modify existing arm to work (in essence dropping it myself) This seems to be the easiest, cheapest, quickest way to go.
    5) any other method I am missing?
    Now for the questions:
How much do I need to drop it?
Anyone have an old catalog showing one so I can see how they did it?
I thought I could tack the lowered portion onto the arm and then take it to a certified welder to weld it up and cut out the old portion of the arm, what material should I use?
    Thanks

Brockman sells a kit that claims no steering mods, but I haven't tried it. It's like 179 for everthing, including trans mounting.

I talked to Paul at Hot Rod and Custom Supply, and he told me that even with the dropped arm, the centerlink still gets in the way. (I think they sell the Butch's Rod Shop mounts) I just bought a brand new Nova pan, pickup, and magnetic drain plug, and chrome dipstick off of ebay for $88...Thats pretty cheap, and there are several of them on there at a time.

My '50 had the raised mounts. The engine sat too high, and looked like ****.
