I've searched for a couple hours and may have over looked my answer but...
I'm putting a SBC in my 58 Ford Fairlane. If you or anyone you know, has done this. Can you tell me what type of exhaust manifolds were used? Did you use "truck manifold" to dump out the back of the motor?

I'd like to see a thread on this. I put a 460 into a '69 Firebird back in the day.

  12. Believe me when I tell you.... I am a S.B.C. lover.
But putting one into a 57 or 58 Fairlane just seem WRONG to me. Sounds wrong- looks wrong too.
What the hell is wrong with using a nice 352, or 390?
Maybe if your bucks up do a 406 or 427 FE engine.
    It's like a heart transplant............A COMPATILE DONOR.
By the way, I own a 32 and 36 Ford. They both have S.B.C's in them. Yes , I own 2 belly button hot rods! WTF

    Resale value says:
"You put a WHAT!?! kinda motor in that? I don't really want it NOW,".

Hot Rods are all fair game. But after the 40s some folks get picky.
    Something to consider.

My giant spoon smells like poop! sorry fellers... Here's the thing... I have a 58 Ford without a Engine... I have a new SBC with out a car... My problem is... I'm a car guy and I just wanted to get the car going without having to hunt and sell to find a new SBF because I have everything in my garage already. Silly me... I'm not planning on selling the car and if I wanted to, it's obvious I won't find a buyer here. Thanks for the info to the guys who gave it to me.

That's the plan, thanks for the help Linkin :D.
It looks to be a little extra work than what I thought. But by the way this thread went... it will be so worth doing! Maybe I'll even put a fresh coat of chevy orange on the engine before it goes in with a for sale sign on the window.

If you decide to sell the 58 I might be interested in it if you are not too far from me as I will be having a extra 460 looking to go into something.

Hey Junkyard Jeff! We always meet up and talk at the Ducktail. My names Steve. If you remember me I used to have a 56 Merc like your friend you are usually with.
I'm not interested in selling the car. Nobody would want it anyway It's a 4 door with a chevy motor in it. :D

Nice 58 TeddyP! I've wanted a 57 or 58 for about 15 years now. Never could find one I could afford... that was not a pile of rust anyway. Sure unpopular, it's a fodor and has chevy engine in it... but it's mine :D

I would be inerested in it as I like sleepers but you could keep the motor or I could have fun blowing it up,I got a beater 77 f150 with a 460 and when I get my 66 f250 done I am going to look for something to put the 460 in but I am seriously thinking about putting it in a chevy if I dont find a ford.

I think you are the first one ever to put a chevy in a ford. I don't think it can be done. Exhaust manifolds wont fit . Oh my god what abought the radiator how will you make that work. You must be a genus to do this. Don't forget to open your hood at the shows you go to. I would love to be thar. I have seen a Ford with a chevy engine at shows in n.h. the ass put Ford blue ovals on his Chevy valve covers.

Am I the first to do it? I am pretty innovative. I'm not going to have a hood on it and I'm running zoomies out and over the fenders. So I'm not worried about manifolds. The radiator should work fine because I torched the front half of the car off.

A mouse motor in a Ford is a improvment! By doing so, you are bring the Ford out of the stone age and into the modern age! Remember, a Ford with a Ford motor is like a Mounds bar. Drop in a Chevy motor and you have Almond Joy!
