Why 4" forward? Doesn't that result in a bunch of unnecessary space behind the engine? And create issues with fan to radiator clearances?
I'd set it in so the distributor clears the firewall by 1/2"-3/4" and check for any other trouble areas.

I believe the front crossmember on Mercury is step forward cuz of the longer wheelbase as opposed to the Fords.. at least that's what I think I remember lol

Mercs from 39-48 were 4 inches longer in wheelbase. For 39 and 40, the 4 inches were in body length. For 41 up, Ford adapted their bodies for Merc use and added the 4 inches from the firewall forward. The front frame is extended 4 inches and the front axle crossmember is forward by the same amount. If CE offers a kit that allows the transmission to be removed without pulling the engine, perhaps they are shuffling engine position forward to the Mercury length. I know that for Fords of the corresponding years, the x member requires surgery to fit an automatic trans and THEN, with some difficulty, the automatic transmission can be removed, memory notwithstanding.

I feel certain the TH350 will be removable. It was in my 40 tudor years ago with the CE mounts. I would think the Merc would have more room.
