Hey guys I'm swapping a 350/350 combo into this Olds I just picked up, it's a '62 88 convertible, and am looking for any tips, parts sources or technical help from someone who has done this before. The 394 that came with it smokes like a chimney and the trans leaks quite a bit... soooo since I can't afford the bread to rebuild the rocket at the moment I'm stuffing the rebuilt chev that I have lying on the floor into it.

I'm running into some clearance issues with the trans tunnel and I'm not sure which way to go with the motor mounts. Looks like I'll have to make some front engine mounts but I might be able to make a side mount to the rear of the front crossmember work. The tranny crossmember will have to be pretty wide due to the way the frame kicks out to the sides of the car, it's about 56.5 inches; anybody know of anything with a crossmember about that wide that I could maybe adapt to my application?

    Thanks,

    Travis

For pete's sake-I love sbcs, but don't do this. Plus, you'll get a love more love from the board.

It's a front mount 394, I'm on pretty tight budget so it's hard to beat free.

I would push that olds before I'd stick a small block in it!

  9. kinda understand that. I built a 60 olds with a bad 394, so I used a 327 and a 350 T. I hade to use a 85/88 camero drivers side exmanafold and a ram horn on the pass, everything was forword.

man... give the guy a break. all you naysayers pitch in to rebuild the olds and I bet he'd do it. sometimes you got to do what you got to do.

is that a different frame that the same year chevy? seems like some chevy mounts would at least get you in the ball park or maybe bolt right in.
