I prefer the automatic ones that came on them, from the factory. The four blade for the smaller engines, the clutch type for the larger ones. No switches, needed, they run automatically, whenever the engine is running
Stock Chevy heavy duty steel 6-blade. They were available on '55-57 Chevys and probably many others. Mine worked extremely well in my '55 and now it's on my Hemi (using an SBC water pump).
I've used these on a couple of cars. A little noisy at higher freeway speeds, but they pull a lot of air. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-g4917 Mike
I've used a fan like Gary has in all my builds I swear by them. I've used a clutch fan in cars that are meant for them ie have the room. Both are excellent choices. Pat
Depends on what car it's in......I am using a Walker 17" fan, Walker radiator and Walker shroud on my '40 Ford coupe with SBC motor.......has worked very well for 30 years.
This little didy has kept it's cool for 13 yrs now, never over 180* This one did the same on the Henry J small block, a few hundred 7,000 rpm passes and many street miles in city traffic, rock solid 180*. A blade check while servicing the engine showed no loose blades, this one will probably make it over to the 57 pickup small block while the big block goes electric for space.
