hey guys..I have a '68 327 chevy..I started it up the other day and i didn't have oil pressure. It had good pressure all the other times I've ran it. I wasn't getting oil splashing around inside the valve cover, so I ruled out my mechanical OP gauge...so i pulled the pan and it looked like the intermediate shaft was engaged on the pump, but im not 100% sure..pulled the pump and bench checked it, it pulled oil through it..what do i check next? The bottom half of the engine was nice and oily but all the rockers up top are dry...I'm lost...any info would be appreciated thanks...
I agree with squirrel... it cant be a "phantom" loss of presure It's gunna show somewhere, before you take the time to pull the chain cover look again at the bottom of the pan and see if you've got piles of metal from bearings... if not pull the cover after all rather than putting it back together and havin it blow on you half way to work or somthin Mike
I just had the same thing happen to me. I tried to free the pump with a priming rod. Come to find out my magneto needed to be shimmed .050 it was binding the pump a little bit. Is your cam gear wearing weird? I would try the priming rod first especially if you are running 50w oil in the thing. It may take a little time but, the pump will prime. If it was been sitting for a couple of months this will happen too. Good Luck.
