Put on a new oil pan, started the engine and the crank was hitting the pan lip enough that I had to remove the pan, peen it out for clearance and replace the thrust bearing that was slightly worn because of crankwalk. All the mains were loosened to allow the new thrust bearing to be installed. Because of oil loss when the mains were loosened, should I oil-prime the engine through the distributor hole just to get pressure on the gauge before starting, or could I get away with cranking the engine over with the coil wire unhooked til I have pressure? Thanks in advance.
is it already a "broken iin" motor??or is brand new engine?? if new i always reprime thru dizzy.....why take a chance on it.............better to KNOW that it has good pressure before ya start grinding metal on metal...thru dizzy nothing but pump is yanking around in there.....
I vote reprime by removing distributor, or removing oil sender and prime with a pressurized tank. Do a search on oil prelubers on the net. If you did want to spin it with the starter, take all the plugs out so the engine will spin fast enough to prime the pump.
why not do it the Right way!
go Thur the Dist and Prime it that Way
then start it
just my 2 1/2 cents
