  1. I agree with this. Fans behind, not in front.

thought I mentioned a new water pump in the check list but.. anyway Its new and the correct pump turning the right way and I've had the back off it to be sure .. actually I've had 4 different water pumps on it. all good ones.. same results grrrrrrr haha

  3. make sure that the fan in front is not doing more damage by blocking the passage. try removing the front fan and only one behind it to pull the air through. also where is your trans cooler located? is that sitting in front of you rad maybe blocking the cool air and passing trans cooling hot air through the rad when under load? just a thought

  4. ! only happens when you pull a hill.

Ok so under load it overheats.....

But otherwise cools well, cools while idleing, running down the highway ?
I'm assuming this is true because you've said "only up a hill"

I would start from scratch with your timing.
Verify your balancer mark is true with a piston stop test.
Pull the distributor and have the curve checked on a machine.
Chech that your vacuum advance is working.

Next check that you are not going lean under load.
Fins a nice road,... WOT and shut it off, pull plugs and look. Test us worthless unless you do it correctly.

What's your vacuum readings at various Rpms ?
Are the components timed to work with that vacuum?

  5. The fans are offset so they are not blocking any air flow. I did touch on the "leaning out" issue with ken and at this point since all the obvious cooling componets have been checked and changed with new this is something to consider. . Keep the ideas coming guys.

I had that heating going up hills with 302 ford.
    Couple things to check.
Is the engine carb level, gas line clean, could be running lean.
Are those heads ok with newre engine, also timing .

    er
I added heater hoses and ran them to a soobie rad I had with a fan on it. came to the conclusion that I need more capacity, a 4 row radiator is in my future. after that test, I looped the heater hose back into the engine and drove it. It didnnt boil over but I'm going to have to get used to seeing that temp gauge run up there at 210.. dont seem right but the big boys tell me thats natural. thanks so much for your input!! to everyone.. thanks!

Weight A Minute There You Just Said That You Have One Fan On The In Side Pulling And One On The Out Side Pulling?? Now You Have A VOID No Air Moving Unhook The Out Side Fan And See What Happens. There Is No Need To Remove The Intake Remove The Thermostat And Use A Light To Look At The Gasket If In Fact They Were Put On Back wards. Then Pull The Intake. But First Look At The Part # That You Used To Make Sure That They Are The Ones That I Was Telling You About.
    Again Good Luck.

You might need to slow down the rotation of the pump, water may not be in radiator long enough to cool. Sounds like you've cover everything else.

I got my new electric fan today its a Ultimate Cooling 2500 CFM Fan & Shroud,
Style 50 from speedway.I hope this is the answer.
WOW its puller and its got 11 blades, and its got 2 speeds high and low, they say you can hook the two together and get supper cooling.I will try high first ,need another relay for the low speed. This should cool the flathead down.

  12. Those cookant bypass routes provided by the heater hoses shouldn't ignored.
