How do you get the breaker plate out? I know to knock out the pin on the gear to get the shaft with the centrifugal advance out, but I haven't found any info about getting the plate out. Does it just pry out?

Also, speaking of the gear, what does that piece right above it that has the three little prongs on it do? What's it called? Thanks.

BTW, I'm surprised that I didn't find a bunch of stuff about rebuilding or disassembling these distributors. I barely found anything, weird considering how many SBCs are out there. Anyone know of a rebuild or disassembly how-to? Thanks again.

  2. It's got a retaining clip on it . It's kind of small. Brake or carb clean it and then scratch around with a 90 deg. seal pick or similar. You'll find it.
The tanged piece is the thrust washer. That flat one is a spacer. I don't know why there's still so much up and down movement . We used to get the GM shim kit and add some in on the race cars. Cuts down on the timing variation.
Probably not necessary for semi-stock daily drivers.
