hey guys, i need some help on picking a radiator for my roadster. engine is a 400 sb bored 040 over, iron heads, 10.5 to 1 CR, mild solid lifter cam, its a 350/375 HP comp cam. 4 speed. options are mounting the radiator in the rear, no problem, or mounting between front frame rails laying flat. i would like to mount in the front. will one of those speedway sprint car types work? they measure 12 x 17 inches. that will fit, i am not sure about how to use the 3/8 pipe bungs, or what to use for electric fan? any ideas? thanks, pkj

  2. gonna take a fair amount of air to cool a 400 40 over,,run 1 in my vega wagon...12 x 17 is kinda small, would depend on thickness and how fast the water/coolant is moving in it.....

I had a similar set up and the 65 Mustang radiator kept it cool in LA traffic... Just had to flip the outlet to the other side...

  4. Don't forget most of the sprinters are burning alky which cools down those hi-compression mills.

i dont know if it makes a differance or not, but the engine is pretty open to the air. very little sheet metal around it. not a long hauler, just a few blast around town and will be in some light traffic. thanks, pkj

  6. that's where you need a good cooling system the most. one 12 X 17 radiator doesn't seam like enough for your engine

With the radiator laying flat in the front, what's gonna make the air want to pass thru it and cool the water as it passes thru the tubes? And 12 x 17 is way too small for a 400 in. sbc if it were standing upright and seeing airflow. I'm afraid you're gonna overheat at the second traffic light... vic
