Having a starter problem. Hope some off ya'll might have a better idea then me. From what I've gathered so far, it's a 350 SBC, 168t flexplate and stagard bolt starter. Bought someones old project, owner wasn't sure on all the specs. The starter is having a hard time catching a tooth when it goes to ingauge. It'll grab for a quick second they free spins. Thought it may have been shimed wrong, so went in and re shimed it with a thicker shim the other night. That helped for a minute but the problem is persisting. The teeth look good. can't figure out what the problem is. anyone have an idea?

  2. if the flexplate is good with no chipped/broken/missing teeth , then it has to be a bad starter drive.

Are you useing starter bolts ? Starter bolts have a nerle by the threads. Is it a metric starter and are you useing american bolts. Put a bolt in the housing and see if it is tight or loose .
