SBC & swapmeets?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by usedall9, Aug 4, 2007.

  1. Want something different and reliable, cheap and plentiful? Go over to fordsix.com and check out Frenchtown Flyer's drag racer. As he puts it: "Ford 300 inch six-the best kept secret in dragracing". I'm putting one in my '59 F100, much to the dismay of my bowtie-wearing friends. I like torque, and the 300 has gobs to spare. Besides, somebody has to tow the mopars to the shop...

But sbc's take most of the FUN out of hotroding!! You don't get to scour the internet and local cl***ifieds and swap meets for years to try and find parts. They're everywhere, no problem finding them. And you don't get the pleasure of screaming at something for half an hour because it should be working but for absolutely no reason it wont turn over. Chevs are pretty easy to mess with. You also miss the blank stares from across the parts counter when you ask for something that is perfectly common and makes sense to ask for, but for some reason nobody at any store in town has ever laid eyes on.

I've got lots of friends that run them and love them. Nothing against them. I really don't love or hate them. Different strokes......:D

I've never owned a SBC car, but our rusted-to-**** 4door '58 Olds draws a crowd at the local cruise-in whenever the hood's up and I haven't even gotten around to putting the J-2 setup on it. I don't really care that much about power, a 4400lb car is a pig whether it has 40hp or 400hp. I think a lot of people run em because they don't wanna learn a new motors quirks. Then again, they prolly don't have to order a head gasket via mail...

Do you want a little whine with that?

SBC's are cool but so are a lot of other engines. Who cares what the next guy is running? Run what you want and enjoy it.
