I was wondering how rare these intakes are. And also when they came out and any reason you would run one of these. Are they good for performance or just looks? Here is a pic. Thanks Jub

Cross ram's got started in Can-Am racing, Its pretty much a tunnel ram layed on its side. As far as how effective they are, people have mixed emotions. Some people feel that its over-kill for a small block and kills low end performance, but they rip hard in the top end. Other people think their great all around. They arent common, thats for sure. Is that an edelbrock unit? Bare intakes usually go for 350-600 depending on engine and how much someone wants it. Way cool find.

The cross-rams without the removable tops date back to the late fifties to the Edelbrock X1 (6 strombergs) for the 283. Later versions had 2 x 4bbl Holleys (X-C8) like your SBF version. Not sure when the Ford version came out, but the BBC version (X-C96) was around in 1965 not long after the 396 came out.

I believe the STR (Street Tunnel Ram) intakes that had removable tops came out later in the sixties.

Here is a cool website with heaps of edelbrock intake part numbers and some pictures.

Thanks, that's a cool site. It had a pic of it and said it came out in 1962 so that will work with my 60's theme tub.
