I thought this was posted before...if so I can't find it.
351W going into '31 Model A. Looking for the short water pump. A friend said ask for '68 Mustang 302 water pump. I did and it doesn't look short. Another guy said '66 Mustang. That has the same part #. Can someone point me in the right direction...or provide a part # even? TIA

I could be wrong (I'm on a roll this week!), but I don't think there's anything you can do with stock pumps more than 1/4" one way or the other (and then you gotta find all the pulleys to match). I think the only feasible solution to significantly shortening it is an SVO part (or Ford Racing Parts or whatever they call themselves these days). If you want, I can hunt an older catalog & find a part number for you...

...it ain't gonna be cheap coming from SVO.

Might be totally smoke and mirrors, but I filled this info for future consideration quite a while ago:

<font color="blue"> Water pump: Ford Racing / SVO short (Explorer)

Might be worth checking out a Explorer!!

Its about $300 for the set up. Or you could set the engine back in the frame and have a recessed firewall. Here is my 29 with a 289 SBF:

Another option is the Snow White shorty pump, which is about 2" shorter than the stock Ford pump. (The two Ford Racing offerings, M-8501-E351S and M-8501-A50, buy you 1.5" and 1.75" respectively.)

The Snow White guys made an adapter and a new crankshaft pully to fit a stock Opel water pump to a SBF. Everything is aluminum, and if/when the Opel pump goes south many miles from now, a new one costs about $60. Why an Opel pump, I don't know, but they've been selling these to hot rod guys for years and I've never heard anything bad about them. The price runs about $300 unpolished, which includes a new crank pulley.

Another benefit to the Snow White pump is that the water neck is on the p***enger side rather than the driver's side, which gives you more room to play with oil filter &amp; steering clearance issues. Plus, if you're buying an aftermarket 'street rod' radiator you can get one intended for a SBC which tend to be a bit cheaper.

Here's more info on the three options that I know of. Note that the two Ford Racing options look cheap until you add up the cost of all the additional required parts. Also note that the second Ford Racing pump doesn't work with a mechanical fuel pump and uses a reverse-rotation serpentine belt.
