been photoshopping some different types , and now i am liking several styles , red on semi gloss black paint w white pinstriping is the only certain part (but then I may make em multicolor fades ) The car is in for paint now , and i will be doing the scallops this next weekend.I know I suck at P.S. but it does'nt stop me from playin, LOL,sure helps w the design of some things even low level basics
I vote the short 2 points. The 3 pointers just look too busy, to my eye. And the longer scallops don't seem to flow well from the front fender to the door. Are you going to outline them in white? That might look good. Or gold. Tucker
I voted none because: I see CUSTOM car lakes pipes. I see CUSTOM car WWW's I see CUSTOM car Chrome wheels. I see several versions of HOTROD style scallops..? If you must do body graphics, beyond a nice CUSTOM style iridescent pearl paint job, do some CUSTOM style graphics. Larry Watson wrote the bible on it in the chrome wheel/WWW era. Yes, I'm sure you can find old pics of CUSTOMS with HOTROD style graphics, but there's "prettier" ways to decorate a CUSTOM.
I'd LOVE to do a pearl or other custom job (prolly a multi color panel paint thing w lace inset paint) but VERY hard to PAY for it retired on a limited budjet , But I should have mentioned that this is a this summer only paint as next winter it gets LOWER w radiused wheelwells F+R and dual sunken antennna's,, I don't even try to play w the big dogs ,I'm out classed,so why try?, I am shooting for a '59-'63 look and from the early magazines I have, scallops are right in there on both rods + customs ,R+C's "Dream Truck" is one that comes to mind, this short area in rodding was a transition period for rods + customs from what I have seen and MANY had a combination of features.(This from about 300 magazines I have from 51 - date) the wide whites were well on their way out by this time period ,(but not gone by a long shot) I like em anyway.under the hood you will find a WAY NOT traditional either rod or custom 406 motor built to todays standards w todays speed stuff and meant to haul ass though dressed early as best I can .Which I now regret because of the 8 MPG.I'll probably go to a somewhat milder ,but no slouch 305 /4spd auto next winter as well. yep, red w white pinstripe border also a star "burst" in white or gold at the points where the arrows and wheelwell radius area meet. Hard to do that w my meager PS skills, LOL
the bottom one.... but the car neeeeeds flake, just bucket loadsa flake and candy...... and more flake..... and lakes pipes or belflower tips..... and astros with red bands.............................. did i mention the flake??
I should mention as well that my other half is pushing for some pinstriped flames which are really NOT in that era ,more 80's up street rodder
I vote for him doing what he likes and can afford. If he wanted other ideas this would have been one of those "Photoshop Please" posts.
Here's my old 48 ford cpe. Sorta a similar body style. Mine had a more forward hotrod rake, but... anyway...here
As my old boss said when I was baking years ago, "everything looks better in odd numbers." So I vote for for the three, but third the lengths for a stagger, if you catch my drift. A few us got together this weekend and flaked our friends roof and added some scallops. I think it turned out ok for a first attempt. The lower isn't all that visable from this angle but it should give and idea.
I also voted none. Unless you are working with a "flat surface", scallops can look really screwy when you start looking at it from any other angle than directly side-on. The curved front fender will play with the eye and make the lines look crooked. I have seen very few fat-fenders with this treatment that I really liked, even then, the lines get a little freaky at certain angles. Great ride. Here's you a quick photohack with the radiused wheel openings. Maybe its decent enough for others to use with their ideas as well.
yah, I kind of see what you mean on Grumpy's ol 48 , th easy part is that th cpe is going to be all semi gloss b4 i start so i can draw it out n go from there , I may well decide against anything n the other half will get her way w the flames so far its way ahead on long 3 pointer's
Me personally..I don't like any flames, scallops, whatever coming off the fender onto the doors of any fatfender cars. I think whatever that's done needs to stop on the fender. It looks weird to me when it runs off the fenders on to the doors. I wish i had a pic of my old flamed truck..... But here's a pic of a ford sedan that's done how I like. Just my preference. See how the flames don't run from the fender onto the door? I see scallops done straight across and it looks odd to me. My.02
I agree. If your going to go with scallops, they don't look right to me when they pass the fender and on to the door. So I voted for the short 3 point, like Grumpy's old Ford.
What about the photochop I did for ya with the spears above the wheel wells ala Mercedes 300SL... the wheelwells on those Plymouths kinda look like half closed eyelids, the spears above them would bring them further up into the fenders. This isn't it exactly, but close...
The short 3 pointers look best to me. You might want to try wrapping them about 3/4 up over the front fender. This would help keep them from looking too much like a decal.
I kinda like the spear idea as well......nice compromise between nothing and the too busy scallop for that body.......
Guess I gotta jump on the bandwagon here, I vote no scallops. There are other things you could do that would be cooler. But hell, it's your ride right??
Yeah I'm thinkin' none as well. I'd focus on the stance. It's not sittin' on level ground in yer pics, so I tried to help that out. I'd go for a dead flat stance and let the body lines do their thing. Olson
I'm kind of stuck w where it is right now w ride hight, But that is where i want to go w it, its clipped so I have few choices , already did the wheel back space as much as I can, next is wheel well radius and maybe tubular A arms to get the front down , the back has 3" RE stands so I can't go any lower there unless its by tire size (which i may do if i get rich enough to afford a smaller pr of radial WWW 15's (235's now),but that is next year I am broke now , the paint was paid for by parts barter- no cash involved .(tax thing ) The backs are going to be radiused just get that bulky look out of the side of the car and show more of the WWW's, looks like a tank to me w that chop looking like a turret on a slab sided bottom, hence the scallop /flames idea to break up all that sheet metal on the side. Hey! I am open to Photoshop idea's-post em I am liking what i am seeing so far ,T+B two tones don't work on older cars unless you have a belt Mldng to use a cutoff line IMO,mines beeen shaved off, its your spear idea that got me to thinking of all the possibillites of side paint idea's.
I like the shorty three points but go with the single point at the head light. Not much room up there for three points for flow with the lines of the car.(Which in my mind is always the best test for custom paint schemes) Love the look. B-Frz
I like the short three point , but I would use something more subtle around the headlights . What ever you go for it's a good looking car ! W.
