It'll be interesting to see what my new neighbors think of how I talk when we git back to Illinoiz.
But it really is terrible to have to worry about scammers everytime someone has parts to trade or sell. It just hurts all of the good people on here.

This has held true for me too. I've sold a lot more here than I've bought, but have had very good luck with both by following this rule. I don't need them to be an alliance member, just a good member.

Get a phone number before sending payment and CALL IT. Not only can you confirm things, but most sellers have no issue bench racing with a fellow hot rodder. I've actually met a lot of cool people selling parts because they have called and we met up at a future show.

  12. How about everyone reading this puts a "wanted" ad up , for , say an inlet manifold for a "44 Henwey , wait for the scammers to answer, then string them along and have some fun.

Just sold a 3x2 intake to New Zealand to a guy with 0 posts here on HAMB.

I was obviously wary so used escrow.com. He deposits money with them, I ship to him ONLY when they confirm cleared funds. They then release funds to me once they see through tracking the item was delivered. Nominal fee for peace of mind. Probably doesn't make sense for a $100 item but this was a $1400 transaction so worth it.

For anything much above $200-300 I would use it every time when international.

Did anyone else besides me googlemap that address? Its a fabulous mansion - but there was a lot of interior furniture sitting out by the curb,
    as in evicted??
    Hmmmm.

  15. You'll find that it's a random adress they pick, just like in the Blues Brothers. What was the address of Wrigley Feild again?.....

The picture of the mansion with all the furniture out by the curb reminded me of Tiger Woods when his wife went after him with a golf club, and she put him too the curb, just looks like thats what happened. Harvey

Pretty flash house. Scammers perfect their craft, multiply it a few times and it becomes a lucrative little business venture.

Ask the seller to furnish you with "some measurement"( bolt hole spacing), casting#/location. or other specific detail of the part that cannot be seen in a picture or is not common knowledge. ie. Anybody know the bolt spacing on the adjustment cover on a F100 steering box?? without physically having one to measure. There is probably 4-5 people on the forum that can tell you that without a tape and it would be pretty obvious by their other post that they can be trusted.

Usually if you pay attention to the wording , the verbatim is off , and if you get text right after you place ads , they troll the new listings also.....sometimes I fuck with them and go along for a day or more , till I drop the cash only bomb on them....had one ass wiper threaten me after he sent a check and told him cash only. Ha ha ....funny as shit.....to me ..I know all the tricks by now....

Another thing that you can do......

If they send a photo of the part or car, you can google search the image. If that photo is on the internet somewhere and stolen and used by the scammer to claim they have the car or part, it will show up from where the photo originally came from.

If you can't talk to them by phone I'd be leery. PP fees should not be incurred by the seller.

HUGE alarm bells right here. Virtually every scam thread I see on here, the "poor guy" has health issues, needs therapy, and is getting his wife to pick it up. Sad but true. Add "moneygram" and "she'll pick it up at Walmart" and its 100%.

For you parts sellers out there in hot rod land, you can get screwed selling on ebay too. I have sold parts, got paid via paypal and sent them out the next day. if the buyer wants to cheat you out of something all he has to do is put in a request to return(even if you state in you listing, selling as is-no returns) claiming it arrived damaged(even thought you gave him to option to purchase insurance) or missing some pieces. Ebay will then make you return his money and you have to pay return shipping to get you part back or op to let him keep it(but still refund all his money) or dispute the claim( that the scum bag always wins) so you are out both money and the part. I have sold alot of stuff on ebay and done well on most sales but every so often you get fornicated. I request postal money orders for deals not done with paypal, that way if they try to screw you in any way it is mail fraud and you have them by the short hairs. I also send postal money orders for those that don't do paypal so I have a name and address, scammers have ways around that but if they cash the money order it is still mail fraud and postal inspectors can be really hard assed.

Sell at a swap meet. Nobody appreciates when you take the time to box and ship out an item. They can't even let you know they got the package and if they are pleasantly surprised or disappointed. It's a very impersonal world we live in. And they are impatient about you shipping it out. More emails. This ain't my regular job. Call Speedway. Or Socal.
