I'm interested in Scarebird's brackets for my 65 El Camino--they say their GTO series brackets work with 14in. wheels. My El Camino came with 14 in. Americans and would like to keep them ,but add disc brakes. Anybody do this? They use 78 Monte Carlo rotors with 90 Celebrity calipers--I'm ok with all that as long as the brackets work. Any pics would be appreciated, too!
I am a firm believer in scarebird after doing my brakes on my 62 olds they are an alliance vendor and answered all of my questions on everything honestly with the parts list that they give you was spot on. I just finished my setup within last couple of hours just finished bleeding my brakes. i can't wait to get it back on the road with the new brakes I had to go to 15 inch rims which was fine by me but that was a different application.
Two words (okay, one is not a real word): HELLA AWSOME! I have used their stuff on numerous projects. Crazy precise, perfectly crafted, impeccably researched. My daily-driver Falcon rolls a Scarebird setup. On yours, the only caveat might be the wheels themselves. Some wheels from that era do not have the clearance reliefs to clear the caliper, if, and this is an if, they overhang the hub. Best to give them a call to confirm if there will be an issue. There will be no issues with the brackets. Of that, I am certain.
Excellent product. I bought his 1961 Pontiac Catalina set-up. Couldn't have been easier. Just follow the instructions!! And he does answer the phone!
Any disk brake setup off of a 67-72 midsize GM will bolt right on. I used parts from a 71 Chevelle when I did the conversion on my 64 Camino. Why re engineer what GM already made? Devin
