when i bought my buick a few months ago it had already been bagged. SWEET, one less thing to deal with :D...or so i thought. the interior needed major attention, so i gutted it. upon pulling the old carpet i discovered they (whoever bagged this thing to begin with) just stuffed the lines under the carpet, not securing them anywhere. well, after that i decided to talk to kustombuilder about a new setup. my logic was since the line installation was just rigged, lord knows how bad the rest of the install looked. so tonight i get the car on stands to remove the old bags and this is what i found for the upper mounts on both rear bags.

(a few pictures were taken after i cut the booger welds free)

absolutely insane, and amazing they havent given out yet. this may be common knowledge, but just doublecheck someone elses "work" i cant believe i even went around the block with this car as it was. just because the guy you bought the car from has been on a magazine cover with other cars doesnt mean he gives a shit about your safety. be careful everyone, and merry christmas!!

That guy needs to be publicly exposed.............if anyone else is running around in one of his creations they need to know so they can check everything thoroughly ASAP.

Amazing what some people will drive around on. Some people know their shit is dodgy, and don't care, while others actually believe they've done a good job. At least whan you've done it right, or had it done right for you, you'll know it's good.

Now I don't know everything about car airbags, but I've worked on buses since the mid 50's, and that type of bag is supposed to have a metal girdle ring where the two donuts come together, to keep the center from expanding and to provide a nice radius where the center is so it don't crimp and fold sharply when the air goes down and it colapses. check out a catalog and make sure it's ok to not have that.
Unless the metal ring is molded into the bellow?

typicaly the ring is a dense area in the middle of the bag (not sure if there is actual metal moulded inside or what). some higher end bags (used for hopping competition mostly) do have metal rings on the outside... that bag looks fine as far as the ring thing is concerned.

That's a big problem now that you can buy a 'MIG welder' at Walmart for $199 everyone who can squeeze the trigger thinks they're a fabricator.

I usually plan on reworking the brakes, suspnsion and wiring on anything I buy.

    Good luck on it.

theres some words to live by!

the front seemed to be installed well. except one little spot the bag was rubbing on the cup, but that is easily taken care of. she's all ripped apart waiting on the new setup. i'm replacing everything from the switches to the bags. just because i have AAA doesnt mean i want to use it! ;)

And just because you have medical insurance doesn't mean you want to use that either.

  23. You BOUGHT the car, no visual inspection. Started driving it around, no inspection. Even go so far as to have a new interior started w/o knowing what is underneath? You are as much a danger as the guy that installed that crap.

well, not everyone can be as perfect as you Tman. i did look at the car before i bought it, i wasnt expecting a 10 point showcar, and some things cant be seen without the tires removed. i wasnt going to tear the car down in his driveway. seriously, do you have to start shit on every thread?

  25. Man, thats some nice fabrication...NOT!!

Glad you found it when you did.

I can understand you missing something sort of burried above the suspension like this but I agree with others here in WHY does this builder go unnamed? Now my hotrodding skills are not up to the level of most folks on here but as a Weldor/fabricator that has been certified in the past to weld jet engine parts. If I were planning on buying a car with modified suspension like this I would make arrangements to get that car up on a lift and get a good look under it before driving it around on the open road. Not long ago there was another thread like this about a very butchered frame under another lowered car that builder wasn't named either. These guys are going to build and sell more of these death traps! Now both might think this is perfectly good work but most of us know better or they may just be snotting stuff together to get it out the door so they can slap some other piece of shit together and sell it.What would have happened if you hadn't decided to do that interior work ?Or if someone just getting going in this hobby had bought this car?

Yep,, alway look before you leap,, its too late when you're in mid-air!! (Or draggin the frame as you cross the center line and slam head on into oncoming traffic.)

Any car that has had major surgery should be thoroughly inspected before use, sometimes its real easy to save a life.

all very good points, i will for sure get a lift for the next "bagged" car that i buy. the guy i bought the car from lives in Anahiem and his name is Brent Nightengale. i am not certain if he did the work or if he had it done, i shot him an email tonight to clarify. i'm not saying i'm innocent, i should have looked the car over better. thankfully this car isnt a daily driver so i really havent driven it much. i've only had it two months and i was out on the ship for a month while it sat in my garage right after buying it too. its botched now, but i'll be damned i'm gonna fix it.
